Virgin media package – good, very fast, reasonable if you dont abuse the phone etc. help desk for technical problems good.
Customer service, worst I have ever experienced – messed up my contract from day one (wrong payment options etc), being hung up on when making enquiries (twice!), bills not being sent – being charged late fees for not paying bills I havent recieved – being told that e-billing is not my payment method (yet i registered a month ago to end this farse with papr bills and can recieve log in pin changes with a valid registered e-mail… so how?) and generally being treated like a criminal anytime there is an issue – even if not my fault! Oh and even though we requested being ex-directory… when we enquired, (after a month of cold calls), even though the agreement stated that it was the option we chose… it had never been added. Not even a ‘sorry’.
I have to say, I am currently trying to get rid of the entire package and will never ever use the service again.
Disgusting!
When I do a search on package (tel, bb, tv), Virgin off course is listed. What really annoys me about Virgin is the fact that it advitises “Order broadband, TV & phone for £18 with optional HD TV.”. I think to myself wicked that’s a great deal – because if you check the wording it doesn’t say from, so I think I can have at least phone + broadband for only £18 not until I read further on and discover that it states (In small print and greyed out)”* Plus a Virgin phone line for £11.99 a month”. What’s that about? Now it isn’t sounding like much of good deal to me!
This kind of tactic just doesn’t sit right with me and I cannot believe they have been able to get away with it. (Where is one of those standards companies that are supposed to ensuring that companies do not use these kind of underhaned methods.)
Virgin are being underhanded in doing that (or whoever is doing their advertising)because clearly you will not be getting broadband, telephone and TV for £18. When you added it all up its £29.99.
They are just hoping that people don’t check it properly when they make the order online and when they notice it that they neglect to cancel it on time.
I think this sort of thing should not be tolerated from any company, let alone a huge company like Virgin.
I am vowing to never to get any service or product from Virgin again.
Anyone else who is not happy about this kind of thing from Virgin or any other company should boycott them until they start to behave more respectfully.
get 50 meg there is not fare usage policy so you can download as much as u like and it wont affect your speed. if you download when your on 20 meg they can turn your speed down for up to 3 hours according to the fair useage police
I have been with virgin media forever it feels and their service has got worse over the last 12 months —the broadband connection goes down 5 or 6 times a day —the indian call centres are a pain ,no offense to them they do the best they can but on the end of a bad line you cannot understand them –it must be the same for them trying to understand us (cappello and england players spring to mind ).
My tv and broadband went down for 2 complete weekends whilst the world cup was on (did i miss anything –lol ).
My kids use xbox live for online gaming alot i suppose they would call this heavy usage and would they restrict my usage maybe .
had virgin media service for a long time, but thinking about jumping ship.Service interuptions are constant, sometimes cant get service for hours ,Customer service have different excuse everyday, you threaten to dump them then your service starts to work again,COME ON VIRGIN DO YOU REALLY WANT TO UPSET THE WHOLE COUNTRY,OR DO YOU JUST NOT WANT ANY CUSTOMERS.
Virgin has a good selection of packages and good content, but their customer services are rubbish. After 5 weeks of trying to obtain a new smart card for my TV service I have given up, cancelled and gone to sky ( even that involved 15 different key presses through the menu system)
Also their services tend to go offline quite regularly. When you call the technical support their only fix is to switch the boxes off and then back on again otherwise they have to send an engineer ( which you have to take a day off for because they wont do weekend visits – although strangely that suddenly became an option when I asked to leave!!!) Magically the services seems to fix itself about 2 hours after you book and engineer to come out!
All in all happy with the broadband speed, TV package etc, but customer service is so bad that I wont be using them again.
I have the same problem. I have two routers the netgear one that was supplied by virgin & another lynksys one. Have tried with both routers and still get the same problem. The connection will keep dropping. Times vary between each drop. Its extremely frustrating. Sometimes I have to reset the router and after about 30 seconds its all working again. Once its disconnected it takes up to two minutes to connect again and it does this automatically with the netgear router. But It will still continue to drop the connection. When downloading its fine, I have noticed it happening more frequently when surfing the web, It cant be the browser because I have tried firefox and internet explorer to no luck!
reply 2 mr a star.
xl broadband(20meg) daytime trafic shaping
10am-3pm 7gb limit if you go over this your service will be limited by 75% for 5hr(20meg down load goes to 5meg)
evening managment 4pm-9pm. 3.5gb download limit if you go over this your service will be limited by 75%.
with 1080p video clips available on youtube all it takes is to watch 15-20 clips in hd and you have reached your evening limit. so he is not being paranoid. it is a total sham that virgin offer uncaped speeds. with the internet evolving to alow streaming of hi-def videos and games all but the 50meg virgin customers will be shafted. virgins network has been over sold in the past and the honest user of the service is now being punished. not every 1 who downloads over 3.5gig is doing so on tornet sites.
I have broadband with Virgin and pay for 20mb speed. The service keeps dropping off -maybe 6-7 times a day. They tell me it doesn’t and to be fair they have sent engineers out and replaced the router and modem but this has made no difference. I also never have received anything more than 9 mb (average at the top end of 7) and that just once. I complained repeatedly about this and they did send somebody out again. He tested it and showed me it was 18-19 mb using speedtest.net. I checked it myself and sure enough it was 18-19. I looked abashed and he left. I tested it throughout the day (THIS WAS YESTERDAY) and it returned at 14 -18 mb and I have never had such a good download speed. Today its puttering along again and I have checked it throughout the day and it is barely 6 mb and has averaged (just) 5 mb. What the heck? I am really getting pretty p****d off now and am even forming conspiracy theories that they turned it up for the day. Crazy I know but I am so damned frustrated at this
I would like to say to ignore “Pete-B” comment. He is being overly paranoid with his claims and obviously didn’t read the “Fair usage policy” They have. Plus it’s clear from what he said that he took the piss with his downloads. (He is probably the guy which a customer services rep told me they had to black list, due to the fact the person kept downloading 500gb of Bluray movies a month. Who knows.)
They say “Unlimited download” but what they mean is unlimited within reason. In other words as long as you don’t go downloading over 100gb a month then you are fine. Other wise they send you a letter and cap your speeds a little. (Only for a month.) What you have to keep in mind is that you are sharing your connection with other people in your neighbourhood. So it’s not really fair if you download all of that and it messes with their speeds.
They only keep an eye out for illegal activity like ALL internet service providers do. So it doesn’t matter who you go to. They ALL monitor your download to make sure you aren’t downloading child porn or committing piracy.
I have been with Virgin Media for 6 years now. I must say they have been very good with me. However when I moved house things got a little messy and took me a week or so to get everything back up. The only reason it was a mess was due to the fact the previous owners of the house had become black listed; due to not paying their bill, committing piracy and downloading child porn. But after I had talk with them I got money off my bill for the fact I didn’t get reconnected on time.
The call centres I must say aren’t good unless you lodge a formal complaint against them. Which I did. I put in a complaint and said if I was treated as I was again I would switch providers. The next day I got a phone call from a British manager, asking me about what happened and what I would like done about it. I said not to talk to an Indian ever again, and not to pay my bill for at lest a month for the rudeness and disrespect I got. Now I get sent to Scottish call centres and haven’t had to pay my bill for 3 months. Plus I got a formal letter of apology for how I was treated and assured it wouldn’t happen again.
So all in all Virgin are very good. I have had no problems at all with my internet, phone or tv. The only problem was customer service. But you’ll find; if you lodge a formal complaint about it you’ll be given Scottish call centres. At lest they are polite and helpful.
