I changed to Eclipse Evolution option 1 from my previous supplier Supanet in December 2007.The reason for the move was dissatisfaction with Supanet's customer service and the fact I discovered I was paying a higher price for an inferior service. I was initially impressed with the smoothness of the transition and the amount of basic information readily available. My telephone line is poor and is capable of supporting less than average speeds, Supanet managed 1.2Mbits/s and Eclipse settled in at 1.5Mbits/s. Upon my return from holiday in May I discovered the connection was running slowly, I checked my router which indicated a sync speed of 200kbits/s. I emailed Eclipse asking whether they or B.T had carried out any work. The reply noted nothing was wrong at their end, the fault lay with my equipment. This is standard ISP talk for "get lost". My sync speed has since recovered to 800 - 920kbits/s. A week or so ago Eclipse circulated an email to Evolution customers regarding high usage and urged those customers to transfer to higher priced fixed download tariffs.
I chose Eclipse on the basis of its star ratings and customer reviews - this was a bad move. Reviews posted a year or so ago relate to a different company entirely. It may be Eclipse is a victim of its own success, however, my recommendation is avoid this company.I will move as soon as my contract expires.

Eclipse were the worst ISP I have ever had.

The customer Services is only open office hours, so forget about telephone support. If you use the web-based support system you get a quick reply, but it is only ever a patronising fob-off. The speed and contention ratio are appalling, you will not get more than 2-5% of the speed you pay for. Traffic is shaped shamelessly so forget about p2p or iPlayer. Moving home with them is clumsy and long-winded, it is quicker to suspend your broadband and re-order. Overall it was comparable to when I had OneTel with a 28.8k modem, avoid this company like Bird flu.

I have been with Eclipse since Feb 2004. I started with their Home 500 package and a while ago they automatically upgraded it to Flex 1000. All was fine until recently. I have been away at university and I’ve returned for the Easter break. I can barely download Powerpoints from my university intranet it’s that slow. If I try to download anything from uTorrent in the day I get speeds of 10kbps and I cannot surf the net! What’s going on? They used to be so good! They are clearly throttling the bandwidth in the day (and they state this on their site). They did not do this until recently and I find it disgraceful. We are paying for a service we aren't receiving. After midnight I get speeds of between 30 and 100 kbps. Until Christmas I was getting 250 kbps in the day.

I’m also annoyed that I haven’t been upgraded to their Evolution Option 3 package as I’m paying the same money! At uni we use Virgin. I don’t like them - they haven’t sorted out the phone which hasn’t worked since installation in October - but I get really good download speeds with them (1700kbps) and I’m only on the 4MB package at £16 per month - Eclipse is £25!

I tried twice to phone them today. I was on hold for so long each time that I gave up. Again this is unacceptable for a service that costs £25 per month. I would look elsewhere if this is what Eclipse has become.

I had high hopes for this Isp, In the first 2 months of service they were quite good. However since then it has been down hill all the way.

I normally only receive 4/5 mb for 2 hrs 7am-9am daily for the rest of the day i am lucky to get 512kb (very lucky).
Customer service is extremely poor with the attitude of if you don't like it leave (that was actually said to me) from very disgruntled staff.

I brought several of my friends and family to this company when i joined and surprise surprise they all feel the same and yes we are all abandoning this sinking ship. AVOID

This is worst ISP I have ever used.
Over a 7 month period, all I've had is very poor connection speeds and throttled bandwidth.
Even though an unlimited, 8MB connection is promised, I continuously find it hard to reach a speed of 512kb (and if you're using P2P, don't expect that}.
Companies like this should be held to account for such bad, and blatantly poor service whilst hiding behind vague terms and conditions.
I am seriously considering paying up to the end of the 12 month contract in order to leave this 'fly by night' provider.
My advice................STAY WELL CLEAR.

Once you have gotten through the phoneline the support do tend to be good, but getting through is a nightmare. Diagnosing and fixing the issue is also extremely poor. We have been without Internet access for a month now and its taken a whole month to go through the standard checklist they have. Very, very disappointed.

The service is good no question, except with regard to newsgroups, the speed of 15k/s per connection (max of 2), means that for a 1Mbps connection it is cripplingly slow.

Excellent service. Excellent customer support (telephone always answered immediately).

I have used Eclipse for 7 years now. No problems whatsoever, no download limit either. Speed is always 100% (I use bittorrent 24/7).

Only one bad point: Their newsgroups are rubbish. If you like to download files from the alt.binaries news groups, go elsewhere. The posts are there, but are always incomplete.

Apart from the newsgroups, they are truly excellent.

Eclipse are a complete waste of time. Customer service is extremely poor. Dont bother trying to call them as you can be left waiting for 20 minutes, and they never bother to respond to emails etc. They dont work weekends either so if you get a problem or have a query forget it.

They also like to take money from your bank account even after youve cancelled the service so beware...

I have been with them for a couple of years and noticed the customer services are getting worse. I have now cancelled and 3 of my mates who joined the same time are going to do so shortly.
Also when you tell them your cancelling they offer the service for £10 less per month just to try to keep the custom. Why does it take the threat of cancelling to get this? what about looking after long term customer? I was really annoyed at this.
I suggest everyone cancel their services and wait for the discount to be offered, £120 saving per year!
On a closing note the actual broadband service is no better than others.

When you find a good company, you want to tell everybody. This is my first foray into Broadband after dialup, and I have to say that I used Eclipse mainly because of the reviews I read. They are, in my experience, extremely good to deal with. Tech support was intelligent and easy to get hold of with no expensive numbers to call. They kept me fully informed via the website of how my order was going, eerything went ahead of schedule and I was connected with no problems at all. The connection is fast and reliable and I have faith that should I have a problem, they will deal with it.

After my dealings with One.tel, this is heaven!

Having researched Broadband fairly extensively we finally opted for Eclipse, partly because of the good reviews here!

We initially went in for the 500lite package and sourced the hardware from Eclipse - everything under one roof, as it were.

Order tracking was easy and everything - hardware, activation (after exactly 10 working days as promised) - went smoothly, as did installation.

However, Eclipse's customer support was been patchy at first - I'm talking over 2 years ago here - but things have improved enormously since. Everything is handled online and migration to different packages etc runs smoothly. Overall, a first-rate ISP. If you're looking for a very good UK ISP, look no further!

Eclipse are one of the very best ISP's providing BBand in the UK ; quality service & excellent connx speeds/low latency due to their superior network infrastructure & substantive peering arrangements.
Products on offer are keenly priced, & on the basic home500 package static ip's are provided at no extra cost AND NO P2P/FSHARE BLOCKING/CAP;
Since activation 2 months ago I can always download files at 60kbyte/sec(actual) during peak hours no problem
You are free to purchase your own cpe ( I took advantage of their router offer which was approx 20-25 quid cheaper than I could find independently).
Compared to other cheaper(Gio) or more costly ( BISCIT) ISP's ECLIPSE really standout ; take a look at what people say on other more popular websites than this ( eg adslguide).

BTW I placed a review on here a month ago only to find it's been deleted- I see that this has happened to a lot of other eclipse reviewers..Why are the MODS attempting to 'massage' public opinion on this site?

Firstly eclipse has been excellent, slightly slow at times on customer support, but when you get through they're good, I've not spoken to better CS staff at any ISP.

However, I have a couple of points to say about this site. Having just read comments below.

1) These spammed reviews I read about, what do you mean by spammed? Could it be that a few satisfied customers (I meet very few unsatisfied ones) noticed that ratings were not so good and felt they should put their own views across? If it's customers "Spamming" and different customers at that, surely that's not a problem. It would only be if the staff were spamming that it'd be a problem.
2) Please, please put more rating options in. An "average" of "Good - with a few problems" is a bit pathetic on 90% excellent ratings, it's completely meaningless. What do you have to get for the average to be "excellent", 100%?

That is all for now.

A current eclipse customer, and possibly somewhat temporary broadband-help visitor, unless the ratings system improves.

Setup went smoothly and even got enabled 2 days early over the xmas period. Not had any real problems other than a few disconnections due to BT breaking my exchange and speeds have always been 59-60k/s.

A very satisfied customer.

What is wrong with the mods on this site?

I made a review detailing my experiances with eclipse and it got deleted!,whats the point?.

It seems to me that we eclipse users are not allowed to be happy with our connections on this site which makes me wonder why,if being happy with your ISP is a crime on your website you can throw me in jail,lock me up, and throw away the key.

Just one last point:- "RowlandB",You want to make a formal complaint because we are happy with our ISP?!, what the hell are you on man?.....

I don't see any point in coming back to this site because it's obvious to me you don't want us here.

Been with Eclipse for 6 months now, and not had any problems after the initial setup. E-mailed them one day at the very beginning, and got a reply the next day apologising for the delay!!! Customer service like nowhere else I've come across!!

Eclipse are a first-rate ISP and provide excellent service.

P.S. To the Mods: If you care to read the forums on ADSLguide you will find a lot of positive reviews of Eclipse. This site had not been noticed until recently, and then someone posted at ADSLguide suggesting that we could post here to allow other people the benefit of our experience.
Therefore the mass of postings for Eclipse recently are NOT spam, but merely due to the poor advertising of your site.

Hmm, wondering where my origional review got to... I don't see why it was deleted, seeing as it was fair and honest.

All I can say is that Eclipse is fantastic. I have used it for home and business use, and there isn't a single aspect of the service that lets it down.

Even when I had a problem with some non-eclipse-supplied hardware, they still talked me through fixing it and did their best in finding a solution for me. I can't think of any other support department that has EVER gone that far for me.

WELL DONE ECLIPSE for giving 110% all the time!!

Well I've just applied to migrate to GetOnlineBroadband. I migrated from BT Openworld (due to thier inabilility to sort out my email) to Eclipse in June this year. Just this week I have noticed that the connection drops on average about every 1 to 2 hours during the day and tonight my home connection has been horrendous. Trying to have a conversation with anyone on Messenger is a joke, you're constantly signing out and signing in again.
My expererince with Eclipse has been iffy to say the least. They even forgot to "switch on" my email. The one thing in the favour is the website looks cool and the one ocassion that a Tech Support bloke said he would ring back, he actaully did. Getting through to Technical Support is a tough job though, I was waiting for about 3/4 of an hour once. The fact that thier entire operation is closed at the weekend and in the evening is a massive JOKE!
No, sorry, I cannot recommend Eclipse to anyone.

I have been with Eclipse for over 1.5 years and I am leaving now. There customer service has become very poor, technical support is a joke - if you log any calls online they never come back to you in most cases or even close your calls. They were great when I joined but the last 6 months they have gone down the pan. I would recommend you go elsewhere as it seems like Eclipse have taken to many customers but have not invested in customer service or technical support.

I chose Eclipse mostly because of this site. Friendly service. Monthly contract and not expensive.
Six months later no problems.
Always available. No breakdowns. Oh, and the price just came down.....even cheaper!
