The adverting blurb talks of speeds of up to 40mb - what is the truth - average. Apparently, living less than one km (1/2 mile) from an exchange in a University town my line (and apparently for all customers in the area) has been set for 8mb.

Since my son has made me aware of speed tests - my speed has averaged between 70 and 115 kbs over the last 5 months despite -
numerous phone calls,
3 engineer visits,
please wait 24 hours for the changes to take effect, please wait 5 days,
it's the phone line,
it's the exchange.
All for £20+ plus phoneline costs.

Who else out there is getting these "dial-up speed" - 400 times slower than what the adverts suggest - they don't tell you the likely speeds when you signup. Is it mis-selling? (Honest sir, one careful lady owner)

So very slow, cannot watch videos online as it takes far to long. Had a new line put in when I moved in so its not the wiring.

Always goes off for hours at a time about three/four times a week.

Am having an on going battle with Bt Broadband concerning my 1st 3 months bill,i shouldnt have one...
When i 1st signed up for braodband i was suppose to recieve 3 months for free but they sent me 2 letters stating i owe them £73. I have phoned them 3 times about the matter,1 call i got passed to 4 people and another call being cut off! Today ive sent them an email complaing again and showing the offer i recieved back in April, if this dosnt work i think Ofcom will be next option.

I am a bit worried reading the reviews for the BT Broadband service and I hope I am not speaking too soon. I have been with them for nearly 2 months and I can honestly say that I am very impressed with the service. I live 0.7 km from the exchange and I am getting regular speeds of over 6 meg, although the upload speed is around 330 kb. The speed does drop off during peak times but never to less than 5 meg. When I first got the service I only got around 2 meg so I queried this and it appeared that they had set the maximum download to 2.5 meg and also the underground cabling from the phone mast to the exchange was ropey but they sorted both problems and its been fine ever since. I do find it difficult speaking to the call centres abroad but touch wood I have not had to since the problems were resolved.

I am currently on 3 months free Broadband but I must say that the full price is VERY expensive compared to other providers but as long as the service stays as it is currently I'll happily pay.
