I was on the o2 Broadband access package for less than two weeks before deciding to move on yet again due to an almost unusable connection and customer service who just don't care.

Up until 4pm the connection was almost usable, in fact the only thing better would be basic dial up but after 4pm the whole thing would grind to a halt, youtube videos would take up to fifteen minutes to load ( a 2 minute video), downloading files larger than 5mb would take up to an hour and google was just about the only page that would load reliably.

At least the call centres are based in Britain so that's one plus point and they answer calls within a reasonable time, I never had to wait more than a minute on hold this however does not compensate for the slowest and worst internet experience I've had since I was on tiscali dial up in 1997.

o2 Broadband, worked wonders when we first signed up, easy setup, good customer support, reliable speeds, 4 months in, connection keeps dropping, constant disconnections, speed tests showing good speeds but incredibly high latency when playing online games, o2 as an ISP for playing online games is INCREDIBLY unreliable.

I dont understand how they keep getting rated so high in providers because the service is poor, connections unreliable and overall I feel like i'm being ripped off, its a joke, dont use o2.

they were very good during a couple of months when I signed their package, but after it was a nightmare, the connection dropping all the time (2 mn surfing, 3 to 5 mn unavailable). I recommended them to 2 friends when I was happy with their service but now they are facing the same problems.
I don't understand how they are always on top of most the reviews... To avoid at all cost.

Initially o2 were great - easy set up and helpful staff. Buying the package was easy and I was updated often with how the connection was proceeding. After becoming active i loaded in their broadband assistant software and imediately noticed little email problems when using outlook - not so much with sending and recieving, but when writing an email the window would 'grey out' every 30 seconds which was very irritating. This interupted anything I was typing and would then continue once the window came back to life. As a reasonably fast typist I wouldn't always notice the 'grey out' and would only know when I read the email back to find great chunks missing. I finally fixed it by removing o2's Broadband assistant software ( on o2's advice wouod you belive). The connectiopn dropped regulary at first but this was sorted by resetting the modem which incidentally I'm using with a wire and not wireless. If you want to use wireless and dont have a computer already set up for wireless you have to buy a wirelss adapter at around £20.

O2 now have an email recipient limit of 50 per hour!! and you can only send to a maximum of 25 recipients in any one email - so effectively if you hit 'reply to all' on an email with 30 recipients only 25 of them would get it. This is of course in case you're a horrible spammer, but I'm not, so it's pants as I often get group emails and like to keep in touch with people this way! When I was sold my package o2 actually told me that I could send an email with up to 100 recipients - hmmnn - methinks they exagerated in order to get the sale which is disappointing and has got me thinking about leaving o2 for a provider with less restrictions.

On the support side - their support is based in the UK and is very helpful and friendly and useful BUT.... it does take a while to get through sometimes - not always but often enough for it to be frustrating. My rule is give up after 10 minutes and try later. Aside from tadry response times and the email limitations I'd say 02 are good and reliable and a million times better than Orange (gggrr) who I was with previously and believe me, the future is most definitely NOT Orange. Just typing that name makes me want to self harm!! Do NOT ever sign up to this hideous company - they will make your online life truly miserable.

I opted for the "upto" 16 meg package, so was very pleased when my speed test's gave me 12-14 mb..
Having come from Virgin Media, where online game playing was almost impossible, often the latancy of the line was too great and i would be kicked off with in a minute. Web browsing was horrendously slow at weekends (Was never like that when it was NTL).
Have had no problems at all with 02 broadband, xbox live runs great, demos download very quickly.

All in all very good so far, it might be because my exchange has LLU so gives me a better experience.
i don't have an o2 mobile so i pay £15 a month, which i am happy to pay.

Nightmare - had a "marker" on the line which they promised to sort and never did. Got told different things from different people - found out it wasn't active so there was no reason why they couldn't have resolved it. Staff there didn't have a clue and even supervisers hadn't the vaguest idea of "problem solving" - just kept telling me that I could get broadband with them once I removed the marker. Absolutely terrible, furstrating and useless service. Had to abandon all attempts and so fed up, am ditching my o2 mobile 2.

After 10 years of being with Screaming Net/World Online/Tiscali,I bit the bullet and transferred to O2.I'm delighted that I did.The transfer took just over a week,I was kept informed of progress by a steady flow of texts and when I went online with O2 three days ago my download speed went from a wobbly 1.2meg to a rock solid 3.5meg.Since i have an O2 mobile I'll be paying less than a tenner once the 3 free months come to an end.Tiscali were charging me £15 a month for a grossly inferior service. Thus far,i'm well chuffed with O2.

Since foolishly joining O2 about six months ago I would strongly recommend that you dont.My computers are now largly decorative whilst they continue to steal £17 off me every month. I have told them that this "service" has no value or use to me. The promise of eight meg was but a pipe dream. They must have know this but they dont care that I try to retrieve my e mails from a worse that dial up connection! One can only hope that one day O2 will know the meaning of the words ;truth and;honesty but so far,not so. I feel sorry for the O2 service people. Understandably, they dont fully appreciate how their product works because most of it is backed off to BT. I am a competent data networking professional and moved to O2 service from BT because I was fed up with BT's arrogant service support people. I think O2 have been victims of their own success. Over the past 6 weeks, on an 8Mbs connection my speeds have gone down and down to the point that I cant reliably stream audio. The measurement tools on this site show that my upload speed is better than my download speed!!! connection quality has been as low as 35%. TCP pauses are at 90% instead of about 20%. The symptoms I am told indicate there is traffic shaping going on - which means that o2/bt are deliberately killing my throughput.
If this were a pyramid selling scam the national press would be hounding the perpetrators. At the moment I cant see who could force O2/bt to supply a viable service.

Strong warning on O2 delivery promise of service. I started my broadband service with O2 after moving from SKY. From day 1 I had to raise calls to them that I am only receiving dial up speeds of 40kbps to 200kbps. They said I should be receiving 7meg. I have made in excess of 30 calls and have done numerous tests under their instructions. They are now telling me that they are aware of a nationwide problem on their speed and they do not know when it will be resolved. 4 months later they tell me this. I asked for refund of my money for the service promise that I have not received and they say they will be not be refunding anything as I have received some service, even though it was a dial up speed! I asked if they could find out what their service delivery agreement for this failure is with BT, they said they did not have any!!!! I asked if they could give me the address for a complaint to their regulatory organisation, they said they do not know it. They also said this problem is universal to all ISP providers and there is no point for me to go to for example Virgin as they will have the same issue. Is this correct? I advised them that I had 2 mobile phones on monthly subscription with them and expected better treatment, they made no comments.

Beware of false promises from O2. They promised me 8 meg even though I would have been happy with 2/3. I hate complaining but they really don't care that they lied to me over and over.My service is of NO value to me whatsoever as I drop to half a meg or less every evening at 5 pm. I'm not paying a penny cancellation fee. It was they who lied with promises of imminent upgrades which aren't due to happen until 2010!Now I have to issue a County Court summons which isn't so bad as I am a "litigator" and its only £30 and can be done online. I will be surprised if they actually turn up to defend the case.. Caveat Emptor guys... If it sounds to good to be true, then it isn't
Here is the mail I got back from them ....
Hi Martin

Thank you for getting in touch about your service.

I have checked the notes that have been left on your account to see what is happening.

You were advised yesterday that we would be beginning work on your exchange to increase capacity and bring your speed up to normal. However, this is only the beginning and we can't say when it will be completed at the moment.

With that in mind, I can not offer you a MAC key as you are within a 12 month contract period for your broadband. If you do wish to cancel within this time then there will be a £48.89 cancellation fee for doing this.

I hope this has answered your question.

Kind Regards

Ryan

I was getting less than 1mb from my old isp. They said this was because I lived to far away from the exchange (2 miles). With o2 I get 4mb on average, and I didn't even have to move my house closer to the exchange!!

I find o2 excellent value for money, reliable with good backup. I would recommend it to anyone.

I left AOL because they were so unreliable. They kindly let me keep my E mail and software as well as free national and local calls for life as a "good will gesture" I took the top package from O2 and the cheerfull girl promised me the full 8 mg even though I said I would be happy with 4/5 mg. The first two months have been ok and I got my 4/5 mg speeds but for over a month now it crept downwards to half a mg between 5 pm and Midnight.I called O2 and they asked me to keep a record of speeds for three days which I did and reported back that there was no improvement.... "Congestion " they said."How about a refund of one month" I suggested". "We don't do refunds" came the curt answer."And when can you expect to fix this problem?" I asked politely. "We cant say" came the reply!
I said I might have to leave and they said if you do you will have to pay for the remainder of the contract!
Sorry guys. Theres no way I'm either staying OR paying for a **** service Bye Bye

At the moment I wouldnt bother going to O2. They are having major network faults and have been since I signed up.

I'm supposed to get 7Mbps and I do during off peak times, during peak times I struggle to get 1Mbps and get pings to the uk of around 110ms. O2 have decided not to have a service status page so have no way of informing the customer base of any issues. They dont give honest responses when asked about problems.

I can't say enough good things about O2, i'm so impressed i've had to write this review just to recommend them.
I was previously on AOL for years then Sky and there is no comparison-i was on Sky Max (upto 16mbps) but was lucky to manage 512kbps after numerous frustrating calls to their service desk for help, only to be told it was our fault we were receiving slow speeds (blamed it on software on our computers then told us to get an IT specialist in to solve the problem?)After stating there was nothing they could do to help i decided to switch to O2.
From the start the ordering process is easy and i was kept informed about every step by email and text-also there is a handy section on the O2 website you can check for your order status. The box arrived when they said it would and the activation date was only a few days away. On the day of the activation i was only without my internet for a total of 30 minutes, superb!
Speeds started on the changeover day at 3mbps then the morning after they went straight to 8+mbps and have stayed there since.
A follow up email from O2 to inform me that they couldn't get the speeds they thought possible (i had picked the 16mbps service)they said i could ring their support team for advice free of charge and go onto the 8mbps package for £7.50 a month. Incredible, where else do you get a company actually encouraging you to decrease your package?

I'm over the moon and out of AOL, Sky and O2 so far O2 have surpassed my expectations-its definitely the best thing i've done for my internet browsing!
I highly recommend them.

I am an O2 customer and chose O2 for the discount and I heard they offered they supply enough bandwidth at peak times so that the interweb does not crawl. Also heard good things about Be internet as well, who as of 2006 became part of the O2 group.

Very simple to sign up and it took 4 and a bit working days to be connected. O2 sent many texts during this period after each stage was completed (validating the line, sending the router package etc) and most importantly quick quickly sent me an expected connection date, which was spot on. They have a whole online account system where you can see the progress of your install, but more importantly your bills.

Installation was simple, just plugged the router in to the wall and the telephone socket (using the microfilter) and it all magically worked (I've been using wireless for a while, so my PC is already set up with a wireless card etc).

The O2 router is good as well. Typical web page type interface. I had to go into the system and select a stronger encryption for the network and changed my network name to remove the O2 (cheap advertising ploy and security risk). I find it is much better than the cheap netgear router we got with our old sky broadband connection (O2 line is much better as well).

The speed for me is consistent, even at peak times, obviously this can very per exchange / connections from the exchange but it suggests O2 actually are providing the bandwidth for a decent service and not scrimping on it like a number of other ISP's do. The line bandwidth is 8Mbps but I only get just over 3Mbps. This is a not problem with O2 but the BT network. I just happen to live far from my exchange in a block of flats which is all adding plenty of noise to my BT line and limiting my effective bandwidth. The latency is also good as expected.

All in all very pleased with the customer service, router and broadband service. Keep it up O2!

I wanted a cheap broadband package and after using various other providers, and not just the cheap ones I thought I would take advantage of being an O2 mobile customer and try out their broadband.

From the start everything was very smooth and the text/e-mail updates were very good for letting me know how things were progressing.

After just 5 days my whole package was active and somebody from O2 called me to let me know it had been activated earlier than anticipated and offered to talk me through setup.

I did everything myself which was very simple for users of any level.

As an IT professional I can vouch for the speed and service of the connection as being very good.

My only down side is the lack of configuration options on the O2 router, although I am sure you can use one of your own, I have not yet tried this.

This is customer service of the highest order. Setting up, moving home, technical problems, complicated billing enquiries - all dealt with right away by friendly UK-based customer services that pick up the phone immediately. They don't just read from a script, but will properly investigate your problem, phoning round other departments if necessary. And all free from an O2 mobile, 24 hours a day.

The service has been great - we live around a mile from the exchange and get around 6megs throughout the day on the standard package. There were some problems with the connection dropping out in the first few weeks, but as usual a quick phone call sorted that out right away. Place a new order and they'll keep you thoroughly updated on its progress by text message and e-mail.

You couldn't really ask more out of a provider for a general use broadband package.

Not yet connected but as per the other reviews very impressed so far. Started off about 6 years ago with Tiscali. Fine (never had any tech issues) until they messed up the billing. In the end I gave up and left.

Moved to a smaller ISP who were ok but problem solving took a little longer than I liked.

Moved to Pipex about 2 years ago. Speed acceptable but then I read they were now part of Tiscali so I decided to get out.

As I've got an O2 mobile the pricing for Broadband is very good.

Text's every step of the way, wireless router delivered in record time - just need to hope that go live day goes well (though based on previous reviews I'm sure it will be fine).

Hopefully I'll never need the tech support but if I do I look forward to speaking to someone who speaks and understands the same language that I do !

I had been on Virgin Media/NTL broadband for several years, an although I didn't really have any major problems, I had lost the service several times for a few hours over the last few months, so decided I'd try switching to ADSL. Originally thought about the total Sky package as the costs looked attractive, but on reading reviews I decided that O2 looked like it offered a more reliable service.

So far I am very impressed. I ordered the whole thing over the internet. The box arrived within 2 or 3 days and my line was activated and I was up and running in less than a week. This was doubtless helped by the fact that I wasn't switching from another ADSL supplier (had to have a new BT lined installed as I had been on cable phone too).

I've never had to call O2, so can't really comment on their customer service, but the initial setup and emails/text messages informing me of progress gave a really good impression.

I live just over a mile from the exchange and so far speed has consistently been between 6.5 and 7Mbps and upload speed is usually around 1Mmps.

Only thing I find a bit fiddly is setting up additional email addresses. The process of having to register each new address on the O2 website and then associate it with your broadband package seems over complicated -- although it doesn't actually take too long to do, once you have worked out what you are doing.

I am lucky enough to get the ultimate package and i'd had a mobile phone with o2 for over 5years and been very happy with service so i thought i'd give them a try when my sky contract was up. Dont get me wrong sky was great, apart from when you had a problem, calling a premium rate number to an advisor who could not really understand English, read from a script, and if problems were too complicated keep you on hold for half an hour (well that happened to me). With o2 the number is free to call from either my mobile or landline, they are based in the UK and provide a great customer service. Its easy to set up and the pack is sent out to you very quickly. I would recommend o2 broadband to anyone, there are a variety of packages to suit your internet use.

As an EX-SKY Broadband employee, O2 Broadband looked rather iffy (as it's a new service). Anyway as my phone contract is with O2 they offered me a deal on 8MB broadband for £7.50p/m and 50 days cooling off period (Cooling off period is where you can leave the contract within the agreement made between you and the company. EG: 12 months). So I went for it. The next day my wireless router arrived (free) and I got a text telling me my broadband would be active within the next 2 days, However I plugged my router in the next day and it connected, Not at 8mb but at 20mb! Not only is the speed faster than BT has said I would get, it went active within 2 days! It usually takes upto 15 days to activate broadband. O2 really have it nailed! O2 broadband is the way to go for price and service!

I have just got o2 broadband today and so far I am very impressed. For years I was on AOL which screws your computer up. Then I changed to sky which was okish. Then when I moved sky wasn't available so I went to BT. To be honest it was just the price with them that I felt agrieved with. O2 have been the only provider that have comunicated with me letting me know what is happening every step of the way. Not only that it has happened so quickly! I did have to ring technical help today because I could not set up the wireless on my pc...I tried in vain for an hour and a half! I rang o2 they answered extreamly quickly. It was a British call centre, the man was very polite and sorted it within two clicks! I was on the phone for less than 3 mins. BTW anyone with the same problem it is the channel that needs setting to 11 on the modem. If they carry on like this I don't think I would go anywhere else! Well done o2 for actually caring about the customer and giving a first class service =0)

Joined o2 less than a month ago. As I was outside the range, I don't get the £7.50 deal although they promised me that they'll drop the price automatically if that changes. My mum is 2 miles away and she gets it. Anyway, from day 1 the customer service was second to none - a breath of fresh air after AOL. Constant texts backed up with e-mails telling me how order was proceeding and the connection went ahead seamlessly. The only thing I had to endure was fluctuating speed for a 10 day test period as I was connected through a BT line outside the range. A few days of slow connection - not a problem but after the 10 day period, it's flying. Had to call customer services for clarity a few times. Every time they sorted the problem. To be honest, I have never received a service like this(not just talking about broadband). This company really seems to care. I am happy to be with them despite the £17.50 PM tag for 8MB. It is, after all, 49p less than AOL's 2MB! What a deal. Would recommend without hesitation.

At last a decent ISP with a FREE customer service number and staff who do give a damn and work hard to solve problems. Had Tiscali who were useless and who cut off my phone service and broadband due to incompetence and refused to do anything and then tried to charge me!! O2 is great. I have 4 computers connected in this house as lots of people using them at same time and just checked download on my laptop -- wirelessly -- and its 7MB -- astounding as 3 other computers sharing wireless link!

We've been with BT for years - we upgraded to the 8meg package a few years ago but never saw speeds over 2meg...were given the standard line about speeds being based on a number of factors and we accepted that and continued paying abour £24/month for the service for a few years.

For the last few months have had problems with BT and have been most unimpressed with the service and the complete lack of reasonable customer service from their call centre...so we started looking around and the O2 package seemed too good to be true. The only package in our area was the 8meg and since I have an O2 mobile the monthly cost is £7.50.

Every single step of the way O2 has been brilliant - the text messages updating the status of your order are a very nice touch.

Installtion was a breeze and we were most excited to find a speed test the day we installed O2 was showing almost 11meg even though we only signed up for the 8meg package!

It's early days, and it's possible we will run into problems in the future, but first impressions are fantastic and I would not hesitate to recommend O2.

Too bad for BT - had their customer service been even a little bit better it's entirely possible we wouldn't have even thought to look elsewhere.

I wanted to write a review as I'm always lurking at other peoples and use them to make an informed decision.

O2 Broadband is a revelation so far. It's been installed for only two days and yet the speed is lightning fast opposed to my old BT Homehub. I'll write another review after a month to give a fair assessment.

So, after being connected a day early, the service was simple to set up, I was informed by text and email at every stage of the purchase and installation and the speed is more than what I am paying for. I'm sure that they will throttle this service soon but in the meantime I'll continue to download at lightning quick pace!

All this for £7.50pm?

Bargain.

First of all I'm writing this review as I feel credit where credits due is so important.

I got my new phone line activated by BT on 14/04/08 and on 15/04/08 I was able to register online. Initially the web registration wasn't accepting my DD details so I gave O2 a call. Instantly speaking to them I knew I was in good hands, friendly British voice (Scottish Guy)took my details over the phone and even stated my potential line speed of 7.6Mb which seemed to be on par with what I used to get with Sky.

16/04/08 get a text a 07:00 saying my parcel has been dispatched and will be delivered on 16/04/08!!! plus options to text back for more convenient days. In the end I collected my parcel from the depot on 18/04/08 (my choice)

Various text cropped up saying thats for joining O2, DD being setup etc and that I would be connected on 21/04/08!! That meant 5 working days from day of order to active line.

21/04/08 line activated as promised but I thought I had a duff modem, O2 sent another I got the next day.

22/04/08 After fab help from technical support discovered it was my lan card that was at fault, luckily I had a wireless card in my P.C and I was getting 13.5Mb according to the modem. I never rely on the website speed test but use newsgroups quite a bit and was getting in excess of 1.24MB per second which is fantastic. With that in mind I upgraded to the Premium package.

I'm already an O2 phone customer so knew the service would be good but not this good, it's fab being able to dial an 0800 from a mobile and not get charged, the speed is fantastic for the broadband and told since connecting my line is able to achieve 17Mb, can't complain.

I joined after being with Virgin Cable I was not using that much in GB per month so I knew I could make a saving.I also read good raves about O2 and how easy it was.

UK non scripts based customer care was a winner from the start, the supply good re-branded kit, very good txt and email updates of your order and all bang on time.

The pricing is fair and good, what you see if what you get charged no hidden pricing from what I could see.

The service is fast, I getting superior speeds compared to Virgin Cable BB, but O2 have LLU in my area which backs the services reliability up.

I used to be an ADSL skeptic, O2 have restored faith in good customer care and good UK based customer services thank you O2.

FANTASTIC. I was worried about changing supplier, UK Online had been fairly reliable and was cheap enough. O2 offered free broadband with my upgrade phone offer, so i took it up after reading reviews. i was promised it would be all sorted within 28 days. two days later, a dozen texts letting me know the progress, I'm being told by text that its ready to be shipped and its due for 2m, if thats not convenient, then i just text back to the options provided. FANTASTIC. After hearing stuff from carphone warehouse problems, I'm glad i made the move. VERY IMPRESSED

Just switched to o2 from virgin media and absolutely gobsmacked by how good the whole system is, sent sms messages always letting me know how the order is going. Even told me when the delivery guy with the modem was on his way, and literally 2 mins later he knocked the door? Crazy!

Their customer services is heads and shoulders above the rest, every company in britain should look here for especially virgin media.

This is a point i have to address, i mean, customer services where english is their native tongue, and its free, open 24 hours a day?

Sounds like common sense, good work o2, if this is what your broadband is like im switching to your mobile network to take advantage of the 1/2 price offer.

Setting up O2 Broadband was a completethe painless experience. I was kept informed by text and email at each stage; even when there was a slight mix-up with the delivery address the problem was solved quickly, politely and with a minimum of fuss. The delivery date was exactly as informed, as was the switch-on.
Having used other broadbands providers for the last 4 years I have no hesitation in recommending O2 to others, a rarity given what often passes for customer service amongst their competitors.

My initial experience with 02 broadband wasn’t too promising. I rang on the 6th of March after my phone had been connected in my new flat. I was told the number wasn’t on the system yet and the guy would ring me the next day (7th) to check again. He didnrt ring at the time he had said so subsequently missed me when he did as I was out. I rang again on the 10th and spoke to a lady who again said that the line wasn’t in the system so she would call me again at 10 the next day (the 11th). I checked online to see if the line was registered and it wasn’t. On the 11th there was no call and I again checked online to see if the line was on the system it wasn’t.

On the 12th I checked online and the line was active so I rang O2 and this is where it started to get really hassle free. The guy took me through the order explained that the Technolgy used was ADSL2+ and the speeds should be as quoted, if they weren’t I would be able to change my package accordingly.

I was wanting the 8mb service for £7.50 but the guy convinced me to give the 16mb service a go for £10. I was reluctant as a neighbour can only get around 3mbps from a 8mbps service so thought paying extra for speed I cant get would be a waste. However 02 use different technology so the speeds are a lot faster than most ISP’s.

I got a text as soon as I put the phone down thanking me for my Order, 2 hours later I got another text to say the line would be active on the 18th. When I got home that night a further text came to say the Internet box and welcome pack was on its way. And on the 13th The pack arrived. 2pm – Very impressive so far. And on the 14th I arrived home from work to find that the line was active – 4 days ahead of schedule. The speeds have slowly increased as 02 find a steady line speed its currently at 14,129kbs so by the active date everything should be hunky dory.

The whole order can be tracked online and the text messaging service to update you is very good to have.

Another pleasing factor for going with 02 is their call centre (24/7 – 365 days of the year) are based in Glasgow and Leeds, so you should be able to get your problem sorted with very little hassle.

Overall a fantastic service. I have been with Pipex from day 1 of my broadband using life (which I first got in 2002) so was reluctant to change ISP’s but 02’s sales patter and service looked too good to turn down – and so far its been exactly what 02 say it would be.

10 out of 10.

I decided to go with O2 after reading the reviews on this site. We had been with AOL for seven years-the only thing that stopped us moving earlier was that we just couldn't decide which ISP to move to. After reading all the reviews for Sky or BT I wasn't sure if we'd be jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire! Anyway after reading all the glowing reviews about O2 I immediately got on the phone to AOL to request my MAC code.
Three days later I received my code and phoned O2 customer services. I was told that I would hear within 24 hours that it was OK and would be given an activation date. Within 2 hours I had a text informing me that my activation date would be 31st January. In the meantime I could keep an eye on how things were going by the broadband checker on the website. We received the wireless box a couple of days before the go live date and I couldn't wait for it to happen. AOL was dropping connection every half hour or so by then.
Our phone line went down mid morning on the activation day. Unfortunately I was at work. By the time I got home I had still not had a text to say that the line had been activated so I rang O2. They hadn't been informed by BT that it had happened so told me to plug in the wireless box and see what happened. It worked! Unfortunately I then had to ring them up again when my computer suffered a go-slow and I couldn't get connected. A very helpful customer service representative said that it could be that Macafee was causing the problem. It was-my computer is such a dinosaur it didn't have enough memory to run it! As soon as that was removed it installed like a dream!
Thanks to all the helpful instructions on the website I managed to get my son connected and also my laptop. I've set up my Outlook Express and all with no problems.
My speed has increased since I changed too and we haven't dropped the connection once. Even my laptop which couldn't stay connected to the old router for longer than 5 minutes at a time doesn't lose it once.
If you're thinking about changing ISP and don't know who to choose then look no further. Customer services are extremely helpful (and free), you're kept informed every step of the way and set-up is so easy even my mum could do it if she had to! I'm so glad I waited until I found an ISP that seems to offer everything it says and more. Dumping AOL was the best thing we ever did!

Like many others here, my experience with O2 Broadband has been highly positive. Setup was completed within a week, and despite BT providing the wrong MAC code, O2 managed to figure the right one out directly without having us faff about with BT customer support. Daily updates via text message and email were provided and the switchover occurred at about mid-day with less than ~1 hour of downtime between the line being disconnected from BT and switching over to O2.

We've always had a good line, achieving about 7.5mbit/s on BT's ADSLMax product, on O2 ADSL2+ we're now achieving line sync at about 20.5mbit/s although downgrading to the 16mbit/s service we now sync at about 17.2mbit/s.

Actual download speed measures out at 15.9mbit/s flat out with absolutely no fluctuations at all, uploads fly at 1.2mbit/s. This is at 18:30pm on a weekday (i.e. peak time) and there's no throttling to speak of.

Pings from Edinburgh down to London are only 25ms, 19ms of that is to/from the DSLAM/exchange.

Along with freephone (0800) 24-hour customer service that don't keep you on hold and are actually competent, O2 has so far provided a truly excellent service on top a superb network.

I ordered o2 broadband because I was fed up of AOL. I was paying AOL £19.99 for 4meg speed (but was actually recieving 2.5meg on my line). I asked AOL about this and they told me that my line cannot go faster than 2.5meg. I told them I wanted my MAC code coz i wanted to move to o2. They asked how much i will be paying for o2. I told them £7.50/month for 8meg. They then offered £9.99/month for 8meg, 18month contract, with AOL talk (which i did not want). They then gave me month free to have a think about it. I took the month free after which i phoned them again to get my mac code. I was told I will recieve it by email within 48 hours (which i did).
Straight away i ordered o2 broadband online:

28/11/07 : -placed order online using mac code
-received txt and email confirming order
-received txt and email confirming activation date of 6/12/07

3/12/07 : -received txt and email that router has been dispatched

4/12/07 : -received txt early in morning saying that router will be delivered today. It also said "if you need your delivery on an alternative date reply to this text 1=5th dec 2=6th dec 3=7th dec (how good is that??????).....i didnt reply to text so it was delived on the 4th.

6/12/07 : -i went to sleep at night on the 5th using AOL, switch over took place at night. When i woke up in the morning my AOL broadband wasnt working. I set up o2 broadband using CD provided (very very simple....a 2 year old could do it) and o2 broadband was working. A little while later i received text saying "our records show that you have now been connected to o2 broadband"

I done a speed test and results showed i am received 5meg download speed and 1meg upload (MUCH faster than AOL). It has been a few days since I got connected now, and i have not experienced a single problem and the speed is still as fast. I havnt had the need to call o2 broadband customer services. Everything is nice and smooth.

In conclusion, i recommend o2 broadband to everyone, especially if you have a o2 mobile contract (as you will get it cheaper like myself). Also, stay away from AOL. AOL customer service is alway in INDIA whereas o2 is in the UK.

If youre looking for a UK based broadband provider that`s good, cheap (if youre on an O2 contract) and does exatly what it says on the tin, then you have found it with O2 broadband. I have to say that 2 years ago I had a horrible fight with Tiscali that put me completely off broadband until now. I then signed up with O2 expecting all the hassle that Tiscal put me through (with abroad call centres!!!)... Held my breath and waited. Within minutes of ordering O2 broadband I had a text and email saying they were taking my payment. Then I had a text and email saying the line tested fine, they were sending my wireless router (free by the way). I got another text with a delivery date on which was actually the next day but had an option to REPLY to choose an alternative delivery date (how good is that). The router arrived ON TIME, then the service went live 2 days later (5 days from start to finish to get it all workgin). Gues what, it worked first time with NO setting up at all. I was amazed.

Then O2 called me asking if everything was ok, i told them how happy I was, he asked about speed and then offered to tweak my line a bit, which he did but it didnt improve speed much but I was happy anyway.

The best thing is that the router they send has twp VOIP ports on where you can plug a normal phone in to. I found a way to get in to the phone settings (locked out usually to avoid problems and to keep it simple), set it up to work with sipgate.co.uk and now i Have an IP phone running straight off the router.. Amazing.

All I can say is GO FOR IT with O2 broadband, I now have my mum on it with the same results.. A++++ Excellent, the best ever.

I've been an o2 mobile customer for a number of years, and definitly have no plans to change my service there, and so when I saw an advert for their Broadband service with an additonal discounts for o2 mobile customers I thought I would give them a try.

I was orignally with BEthere (please see other review to find out just how awful they were....) and as o2 owned them I thought the switch over process would be seemless, and it was!

I made the call to Bethere and requested my mac code. I recieved that the same day (15th Nov) I then gave this information to o2, a few days later I recieved the router, and by the 22nd Nov I was up and running with o2 Broadband, absolutely fantastic 7day turn-around time!

Since being with o2 Broadband it has been less than a week, but touch wood everything has been perfect, the online accounts status feature was extremely useful and definitly empowers the customer and cuts down on potentially time/cost intensive phone calls just trying to find out basic infomation as it's readily available at a push of a button.

As and when over the course of the 7 days between registring and being onine I probably called o2 Broadband 3 times for various reasons. In each of these encounters the call was answered very speedily, the person on the other end took me through security quickly, asked sensible questions to identify how best to deal with the issue. The staff at o2 Broadband are definitly experts in their product and could answer all queries thrown at them, they were polite, courteous and could understand everything I was saying to them, and I could understand everything they were saying to me.

The actual service itself is flawless, the connection speed is ridicuoulsy fast the service has not dropped or lagged, regardless of the number of people in the I live in a shared house - it is a 6 person household) There have been no outages, no one in the house has had problems connecting to the o2 Broadband Router, nobody has had issues accessing the service from any of the 4 floors of the house or from the conservatory or the garden!!

All in all this service is definitly value-for-money, it has been very well planned, the roll-out i'm sure will be highly successful, this is one very pleased customer, I would definitly recommend this service!! I hasten to add that I have been using Broadband for approximatley 6-7 years and at one time or another I been have a BT, Orange, BEthere and Wanadoo customer, I can definitly say that o2Broadband is definitly head and shoulders ahead of the rest in terms of Broadband service, router capabilities and customer service!!

PS - I do not work for o2, I really am a genuinly pleased customer!

I have been a customer of Talk Talk for 18 torturous months, and before that one year with BT Internet, which wasn't much better. We got to the point where we seriously lost all faith in ADSL after all our problems. We live in London, but are not so close to our exchange, so we were led to believe it would never be particularly great.

Once our contract expired we began looking for an alternative. I was almost on the verge of signing up with BE Internet, because of the great reviews I have found online and from a colleague at work, until I spotted the O2 offer.

O2 bought out BE so they share the same infrastructure. However if you are an existing O2 customer you only pay £7.50 a month for upto 8mb internet which beats BE's £14 rate.

Our conversion experience was spectacular!

Monday: Submit an order online and we are given a go live date of Friday (wow!)
Tuesday: A wireless modem/pack is sent to us
Wednesday: modem arrives. I plug it all in and guess what: it just worked - two days before official activation with no software needing installing or modem settings being fiddled with!!

What I really appreciated throughout our switch over process was O2's clever order tracking system. I received emails at every stage and also text messages. I received a tracking link for my modem so i could spot where it was in the snail mail system. and I finally received a pre-configured modem which just plug and played effortlessly.

Oh and I left the best bit until last, I discovered we were receiving 5Mb/sec steady connection rates - something I have never received from either Talk Talk or BT. The phone line is also clear and loud - as opposed to be faint and crackly with Talk Talk.

Technically, I am still minus one day from my go live date, so I will post another review after my first month.
