In a nutshell Sky Broadband are SH!T!!!!!

I've been with them over a year now and am looking forward to changing to O2 ASAP.

Since I have been with them, I have had to order FOUR replacement router boxes. I have had two Netgears and am on my first Sagem box now, but I have just ordered a new one today.

PROBLEMS:-
Netgear Box No.1 just stopped working. It took them over 15 days for them to send a new one. They say it usually takes 3-5 working days - which is ridiculous anyhow, surely a next day service is feasible?? Anyway, the first replacement order was never processed properly, so they had to order another for me - this took 5 days to arrive.

Netgear Box No.2 also just stopped working. My Sagem Box took 3-5 days to arrive.

My connection had always been slow, I thought this was just standard, but after taking my laptop to a friend's house and logging on their sky connection, it was so much quicker. So I called up Sky and they told me they had capped my connection 5 months ago - without telling me!! So after a total of about an hour on the phone to indian call centres, they finally managed to increase my connection to the speed I was entitled to.

Now, for the past 10 days or so, my wireless connection has been intermittent, kept on switching off for no reason. Then a few days later I couldn't log wirelessly at all! My partner also cannot log on with his laptop so it's not a computer problem.

So I called up last week and after being on the phone for 45 mins, they just tell me to phone BT as they can't find a fault. I speak to BT today and there is no line problem. So I called Sky again today, got through to the Indian Call Centre and am on the phone again for another 40 minutes whilst the guy runs through his checklist - even though I explained I had already been through the bloody checklist last week! Eventually he says he will put me through to 'level 2' - but then just cut me off!!! GRRRRRRR sooooo frustrating.

So I call them up again, and got put through to a lady in 'level 2' with such a strong Caribbean accent I kept on having to ask her to repeat herself. Another 25 mins later of going through another pointless checklist, she agrees she needs to send me another router. I could've saved a fortune on my phone bill and told them that myself!!!

The most annoying thing about Sky is their Indian Call Centres - the operators are like robots reading off a script, they have obviously been told they must perform all of these 'checks' but even if you have already performed these checks or you know that resetting the router for example will not work, they still waste 10 minutes of your life and expect you to do it!!!

However I have on a couple of occasions managed to get through to an English call centre - and they are usually a lot more knowledgable and helpful - I wasted 30mins speaking to an Indian call centre about my connection speed, he told me to go away and change my filters then call back, this didn't work. but the following week I spoke to an english guy and he managed to sort it out pretty much straight away.

So my overall opinion is that Sky are awful, their customer service is terrible, and so I wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy.

It's supposed to be 16MB but I haven't got above 7MB since I changed to it last November. It's still better than BT Total Broadband, which was supposed to be 8MB but only gave me 1.5MB. I'll still be renewing my subscription though.

The only time I've needed to call Technical Support they were unable to resolve the query because I use a Mac. They did, however, put me through to Apple Care and no cost to me.

rubbish service. glad that my 12 months will be over soon.
sadly didnt know that so many people had the same problems and that sky in genral provide a dial up service through the exchange.
i am suscribed to 16mb, i live right near the exchange, and i used to get above 15mb usually on my router status. then i got myself a ps3 and realised how frequently the service dropped. it was a wired connection so nothing wrong with the signal. called sky up they said something wrong with my bt wiring, which is rubbish cos the line is less than 2 years old and ukonline didnt have any problems with it. resently i only get 8mb service even thought i still pay for 16mb serivce. its crazy trying to speak to the tech guys who are clueless and if i keep calling them i get a huge phone bill. STAY AWAY FROM SKY!
will be migrating to bethere soon. looking forward to 24mb service

When I moved house recently, Be broadband weren't very helpful, so I decided to switch provider for Sky as they were fairly well rated and a bit cheaper. This was clearly a mistake, the speed is poor, the service is down far more than it should be, and as soon as my 12 months is up I will switch back.
