Christ where do i start... I have been a customer and loyal member of AOL for 5 years yes 5 whole years! Untill April 2007 they were flawless no need to contact customer support it just worked and worked to a high standard.
However since April 2007 things went down hill...fast!
I contacted Customer Support (Live Help) which was initially quick to answer however the promised call from a technician never came and i waited untill by magic my connection fixed itself. After then the connection was slow and relatively unstable. However the beggining of December 07 came with the move to The Carphone Warehouse. Even though i wasnt scheduled to be moved over for another month my line became erratic, the stability was at the point where i was lucky to get a connection for longer than 3 minutes.
I was finally moved to the carphone warehouse network at the end of January 08, did this solve any problems - No! The connection became even more unstable although yes speeds initially increased. I have spent 3 hours phoning customer support and being thrown about with advice such as "It's your comptuter, its BT" Finally when i talked about WAN PPPoE the support agent tried to fob me off the subject, i asked here what it was and she transfered me to tech level 2. I was told in tech level 2 (after a line test.. cmon) that it would be fixed on tuesday. Tuesday came and passed with continued 'suckiness'.
I have recently moved from the once great but now appauling ,over priced, poorly supported network to O2 where guess what i have had 0 problems, the only problem is the shock i had to overcome when the line was finally stable with improved speeds. And guess what £7.50 a month is around 3 times less than the £25 AOL charged me for the piled of S**T..
After £12.60 worth of customer support calls and half a year of pathetic service i am finally happy enjoying my connection elsewhere.
Oh and dont get my started on their software, i ditched that back in 2003 =]

I had a 2Mb connection but was only recieving 1Mb.It took at least 5 calls to customer service and months until i recieved the correct connection speed. They lied and said that the max i could get was 1Mb and thats why i was capped.I ran a line test and my line supported 6Mb.Despite constant disconnections i stayed with them as it is very easy to set up for a young child. Now since carphone warehouse have taken over and the FUP has been introduced its all gone pete tong.I have been capped to 57KB/s after 6pm because i am a so called heavy user.Their limit is 40GB of download i am nowhere near this per month.Talk Talk the (same company) are also capping without the users downloading over their limits.AOL blame everyone else if you have problems,BT,My router set up and even my computer has taken the blame.Dont ever try to call customer sevices. You will get India and someone who cannot speak English hence the call will be twice as long as it needs to be.If you call after 9pm you will get Ireland and can speak to someone you can understand. Please remember even though you are in a contract you are entitled to leave if their service is unsatisfactory (What a reasonable person would expect). You must however give them the chance to rectify the problem to your satisfaction.Ths service must be fit for purpose and if it is not you can terminate your contract under the consumer rights act.I love the way i get a different anwser to the same question with each representitive from AOL.All i can say is there is a lot more problems to come now Carphone warehouse have their fingers in the pie.

I have been with AOL for 3 yrs roughly. The speed I received was poor. I was receiving 2.5meg with AOL for £19.99/month and now I am receiving 5meg with O2 for £7.50/month. AOLs customer service is totally rubbish. They never know what they are talking about. Its like they are reading from a book. If you ask them you dont understand what they mean. They will just repeat the same thing again. Now AOL are trying to get people on 18months and even 24 months contracts and you have to take out the AOL talk too!!! I recommend every1 on AOL to change as soon as the contract finishes....and everyone thinking of getting AOL...STAY AWAY FROM THEM!!! You may have noticed that carphonewarehouse offer free laptop or ps3....if thats the only reason you want to get AOL, let me tell you that you will get your laptop/ps3....but u will be stuck in an 18month or 24 month contract in which you will receive POOR service. So think again if you really want the hassle. Everytime I contacted AOL, i was transferred to INDIA who didnt understand a thing. When AOL say that the speed will be upgraded within 6 months for free, it takes much longer than 6 months. I waited 1 yr and 6 months to go up from 2meg to 2.5meg (was promised 4 meg)!!!
In conclusion....AVOID AOL BROADBAND and move to someone who cares about their customers eg O2 broadband.!!!! READ REVIEWS OF O2.....all are positive!!!!

We have had Aol broadband, silver...well tehy keep telling us we have it ...for 11 months. In fact it has never worked but they charge us for it just the same and one customer advisor told us we were very lucky that they would let us have the normal service of ten quid a month at no extra charge....They could actually charege us for that because that is the only service that works. STAY CLEAR. It's a joke. We are just waiting for the contract to end.
