Visionary Communications has completed tests of it’s broadband plant in Casper, Wyoming. Visionary has built the plant using Adtran equipment, and will provide Digital Subscriber Line up to a range of 23,000 feet from the telco Central Office.
Digital Subscriber Line, or DSL, is a broadband service known for its reliability and quality of service. Visionary’s DSL plant, which uses the Adtran TA3000 switch, will provide service a full mile beyond typical DSL range. The company supports line-share and synchronous DSL from their collocation within the telco office, and can also support corporate-class services using T1s and optical fiber.
“Visionary started offering our own DSL in smaller communities,” said Brian Worthen, President and CEO for the company. “We had initially planned for our Casper location to support our network in Wyoming. However, it was logical to install DSL at the same time, as there are businesses screaming for reliable internet service.”
Worthen also explained that businesses in the Casper area have increasingly requested synchronous internet services, which provide the same speeds in both directions. Typically, internet service providers will deliver service over an asynchronous line, which boasts a fast download while sacrificing upload speeds. Of the five companies offering broadband services in Casper, Visionary will be the second to support synchronous speeds.
“Businesses have grown increasingly reliant on their computer network, and supporting remote users,” said Jeremy Malli, Visionary’s Network Operations Manager and self-proclaimed Alpha Geek. “However, remote users can’t download at high speeds, because many businesses use asynchronous lines. Their network can handle incoming traffic well, but outgoing traffic is choked down.”
Visionary’s broadband plant in Casper supports rate-adaptive DSL, which will adjust the subscriber’s speed to the quality of the line. If line quality degrades due to temporary environmental factors such as rain, the DSL system adjusts for that subscriber, ensuring they remain connected to the internet.
Visionary Communications is Wyoming’s largest privately-owned Internet Service Provider, serving more than 90 communities in the state. Visionary operates five DSL plants, and seventeen wireless broadband plants in the state.
