Visionary Communications Expands DSL Footprint to Utah

Visionary Communications announced today that the company has expanded their DSL footprint to 61 cities in Utah. This announcement comes on the heels of the company’s expansion into Colorado in mid-November. The addition of Utah allows Visionary access to DSL in 196 communities in the Rocky Mountain Region, and affects both business and residential internet users.
Visionary’s expansion allows the company to provide internet service at a regional level, essential to businesses that require firewall and VPN support, support often neglected by cable companies or large DSL providers. The expansion provides access to secure business services from Visionary in the states of Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and now Utah.
The company, which specializes in Standalone DSL (DSL without a phone line), has also seen a dramatic growth in requests for residential service where the End User’s main telephone is a cell phone. The Standalone DSL product allows Visionary to provide DSL to this new market segment, competing directly with cable. With Qwest’s recent rate hike on Choice telephone packages, more End Users will migrate from land lines to cell phone at the residential level, creating more demand for Standalone DSL.
“We have the tools to accurately qualify a customer for Standalone DSL. We can tell if a customer’s phone line has load coils, pair gain, and bridge taps that will affect their ability to get service,” says Brian Worthen, President and CEO of Visionary. “Businesses without Qwest service still have DSL as an option, and residential customers moving to cell phone can still receive DSL service.”
Visionary has been taking advantage of niches such as Standalone DSL during the last year, and has plans to expand their network even further. “Our goal is to be as disruptive to the market as possible,” says Clay Cundy, Visionary’s Wide Area Network Manager. “Everyone in the market is so traditional, and always follow the pack. We try to stick to our name and be true visionaries.”
To date, the company has created three new jobs in Wyoming with the DSL expansion, and one job in Colorado.
