Last updated: Wednesday, May 23, 2007 10:15:00 AM GMT

Research published today shows that Swindon tops the league table of broadband towns in the UK. However, Milton Keynes is closing the gap and comes in second.

Research published by Point Topic shows that, at the end of 2006, 65.3% of households in Swindon had a broadband connection. This is up 5.5% from end June 2006.

Milton Keynes has managed to claw its way from 62nd to 2nd place in just 6 months and now has 63.7% of households with broadband.

The UK national average is currently just under 46%.

It's fantastic that MK has been recognised as the most improved broadband town in the UK. It's a pity that the connection speed for most of it's residents is little short of non-existent due to the inferior infrastructure that BT has in place - 1 exchange for 1/4Million residents, cheap alluminium cabling.
