Ofcom: Broadband Digital Progress Report

Last updated: Monday, April 02, 2007 1:55:00 PM GMT

Ofcom has today published its research report on the current state of the UK broadband market. Over half of all UK adults now live in households with broadband connections.

From the report it seems that the UK broadband market is doing quite nicely with 13 million residential and small business connections at the end of 2006. This is up 31% compared to the previous year.

The estimated revenue for broadband providers is £1.8bn, an increase of 18% over the year and fifteen times the revenue in 2001.

63% of adults with broadband at home used it daily, with 30% going online once a week. The average time spent online was 9.1 hours per week.

The average connection speed was 3.8 Megs.

The full report can be viewed by following the link below.

I can get broadband -various tests say 2.5Mbs.
Enquiries on my neighbours on each side suggests they can get 6.5Mbs. Any suggestion of a fault and all I get is it depends on the distance from the exchange number of users condition of wires. We are all on the SAME telegraph pole the tests are done within minutes but can I get anyone at BT or ISP to help- you must be joking.

dave, the fact that you are fed from the same telegraph pole as your neighbours is irevelant, the variations in speed connection is probably down to the cable your fed from the exchange to the roadside cabinet (green boxes on roadside) there could be 3 or 4 cables varying in lenght and quality, but this wont get changed just because your neighbour has a faster connection
