I think it is the WRT-54G. It has two antennas. I was told it is a good wireless router to use because you can upload your own firmware to it, or one someone else has modified, which allows you to use it for a lot of different purposes, even a web server.

Anyone have experience with this router?

Sorry if I got the model wrong.

I think Cisco owns Linksys so they probably turn out pretty good routers. Never used one myself though. Have used d-link and netgear.

I am not familar with this router. What is the benefit of the two antennas. Also why would I want to use a non-official firmware? Is there anything special you can do without it?

I found this PC Magazine review, and in every major category a Linksys router won their editor's choice award.

The two antennas are nice because it gives you more directional control for sending out the signal. I have noticed my linksys sends out a MUCH stronger signal than other routers I have tested.

The reason for the firmware changes is you can get some modified firmware to do all kinds of cool stuff. Run a webserver on it, linux and such. For practical purposes though, you can turn the router into an access point. If you know how much access points sell for you realize this makes it a great value.

You can use the cisco as an access point? Colour me intrigued. I am actually looking for an access point. If I use it as an access point can I use more than a single ethernet port? I noticed that most access points only have a single ethernet port.

I actually just ordered a linksys wireless router. I have been using a d-link but it has been really unstable. So I am going to try the linksys and see if I can get a more stable environment.

For the record, I went ahead and placed an order for one of these.

I will be interested to let you all know how it works out. I already have a d-link wireless router, but I am going to try and use this to hook up a remote media server, xbox live and a second pc in another part of the house.

I have been reading up on the firmware modificiations and one i have seen that works well is freeman. Do you know anything about that particular free firmware? I know there is someone else who does one, but they charge for it.
