I'm having problems where I'm only getting 0.3 meg speeds and get disconnected sometimes.

We have totally replaced the router & filters. The router is plugged directly into the master test socket.

We called SKY who couldn't do anything at their end so they sent a BT engineer. The BT engineer said the line is testing ok and we should call SKY back up to request a stable speed of 1 meg.

So we called SKY backup, they said the BT engineer didn't file a proper report with them so they have escalated the matter and said they would send another engineer at the weekend.

I've tried turning the sky box off and testing the noise levels using routerstats, there was no change.

Did the same with the phones, turned them off with the power switch and removed the phone cable from the filter, there was also no change. The extention phones don't ring upstairs when plugged into the master socket which I believe is correct.

My sister who lives just round the corner in Blackburn gets speeds of 6.2 meg.

Here's my stats I got from the router;

Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
WAN PPPoA 0 0 0 0 0 0:00:00
LAN 15 0 0 0 0 0:01:40
WLAN 795 699 0 191 175 0:01:13
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 249 kbps 230 kbps
Line Attenuation 58.5 db 35.7 db
Noise Margin 7.4 db 9.0 db

I should be getting a sync speed of 3Meg with that attenuation, my line length is about 4km to the exchange.

After reading into it, it seems my Noise Margin should be higher?? Apparently they can make this higher to reduce speeds/get more stable connection and make this lower to increase speeds/less stable line.

However, you can't really reduce my SNR any more? Any ideas on how to improve the SNR? Is this a fault in the local BT exchange or something?
