For example, if the service is contended or oversubscribed at 20:1, it means that you share the bandwidth with up to 19 other users. Basic ADSL services in the UK (mainly using the BT network) typically have a contention ratio of 50:1 with the more expensive or business packages having 20:1.

RE: Zen Internet

I think contention ratio relates to their overselling policies.

If they have 1 gig of upstream bandwidth, they will only sell 50 gigs of bandwidth to customers. Since customers do not use all their bandwidth at the same time it works out okay. I do not know if 50:1 is good or not, they seem to be claiming it is.

RE: Zen Internet

What is a contention ratio?
