I have tried Firefox, Camino (another Mozilla browser), Safari, and Omniweb, which does not even let me run the test.

I realise that you are doing some pretty clever stuff with your site but it would be nice if you could make it web standards compliant, and platform agnostic.

Please!

Broadband testing Query

I am using a Netgear 54G router/modem and have one computer connected with an ethernet cable. I also use another computer and log on to the wireless network...

If I run a speed test it says I'm getting 6.8 mbps on the ethernet cable machine but seem to get regularly only 3.4 mbps when connecting wirelessly..........

Is this the router slowing down the information transfer and therefore impacting the results ?

Would I get a better connection with fewer phones or moving the router closer to the main bt point ( master socket )

Thanks for help

How does Broad Band work?

This is a general enquiry because I am curious as to how it works. As I understand it a BB moden allows signal transmissions for both internet use and telephone conversations. More information gets sent via broad band than with dial up. Is this because there are different types of cables going from telephone exchangers to ISP who provide BB or is there something else which causes it to work?

Networking Article Series

Hi All,

One of the things that has been lacking from our site until now is some guides on home and small office networking.

We are now publishing networking guides. The first of the series is available at http://www.broadband-help.com/articles/networking/guide%5Fpart1/.

We are aiming this series of guides slightly differently than most other sites. The difference is that we don't believe that publishing basic step-by-step guides is of any use to most users. We believe that gaining a good general knowledge of basic networking is of far more value. Therefore, our networking guides are designed to provide enough knowledge of basic networking principles to enable users to do most things themselves. More importantly, as users will hopefully understand why something is at it is, they will be far more likely to be able to solve any problems that come up.

We would appreciate any comments / suggestions that anyone has on these articles. Specifically, things like:-

Are they useful?

Are they pitched at around the right level?

Did we miss anything?

Thanks in advance for any comments.

We hope that you enjoy reading our new series!
