Initially on BT Total and now on O2 Access. I have never reached a speed of 1mbs but always floating between 0.1 and 0.5 - painfully slow!

The trouble is a solution seems to be impossible to find. My line has been checked, my equiptment has been changed and so, of course, has my ISP.

I have just discovered that two ISPs, AOL and TalkTalk have 'unbundled' at my exchange (about a half a mile from my house) and are now offering LLU services.

So my question is this, would this solve my problem? Should I sign up to either of these providers (even though they get awful reviews on most of the review sites - although I struggle to find a provider that doesn't)?

Any help would be much apprieciated.

Why is my connection so slow lately?

Hello all,
For the last few weeks my Broadband connection has been getting slower & slower.
Sometimes it takes up to one minute to load a page, other times I receive a 'Timeout' message.
I have Mackafee security and firewall in place and do regular checks for 'intrusions'; & spyware etc.

I am with AOL/ Carphone warehouse and, until now, have had no complaints.
I have run speedtests, and, on 3 occassions noted that I seemed to be getting results for being routed to Sydney/ Hamilton????
I do have a sppedtest result link, which I hope comes out below.
I am in no way technically minded in these matters, so would appreciate some guidance here please on what I can do?I don't really want to change from AOL as I do not know if this will solve the problem.
A neighbour, who is an ex BT engineer told me that it does not matter how fast the isp says their speed is, the telephone line will only support up to 2mb or 2gb- cant remember which (is this correct).
Many thanks for any help.
Ed
link is:

D-link router denies internet access to one of three computers

I'm trying to help a friend with a router problem. He has two desktop PCs and one laptop. His router is a D-link DSL-G624T.
The two desktops are working fine on the Internet through the router. The laptop will connect to the 192.168.1. interface to the router, both wirelessly and wired and I've been able to check the router config using the laptop. The bad news is that any attempt to connect to Internet sites from the laptop fails. So, for some reason, the router is denying Internet access to that particular client PC. The same laptop works fine and connects to the Internet on any other router at other locations that we've tried. So it seems to be a problem specific to the interaction between the laptop and the specific DSL-G624T. I've been asked not to reset the router in case it makes things even worse. Any ideas what I should be looking for, please? Sadly, I can't gain access to the router now until Monday, but I do have the laptop.

Problem with Netgear RP614 v4

Hi i have a problem using a Vista and XP its get me an error with DNS for example if i have an connection on XP i cant use Vista for surfing on net and same if i can connect to internet with Vista i cannot surf on XP i use automatic IP also i get an Static but the problem is still the same i can see the two of them PC via router but i cant surf on both in the same time.

Please send me an mail to me how to resolve the problem.

Thanks!

My mail is dejan@tv-sonce.com

The Cisco Certificate

Cisco, being a leader in networking, has many aspirants for its certification courses. Tiscali or O2

OK,8

We live in S London with a BT landline, we are currently on Tiscali Broadband at the extortionate £20 a month for 6meg. Rubbish, so being an O2 mobile customer I was going to set up a 20meg for £9 something with O2 broadband. So...

O2 said yep, you live near the exchange you can have 20meg no probs.

Phone up Tiscali to get the MAC key, and they say;

O2 is lying to you chum, your line can't support 20megs.

So who is lying? Who should I trust, we got 7 people living in my house with up to nine 9 different PCs/Consoles etc all gobbling up the piffling 6meg of broadband, so we need something faster than 6meg.

Any ideas?

VOIP Complete Routing and Billing Solution Available

Dear Friends:

Want to setup VoIP company, a business under your own brand name? (so he comfirmed there IS a problem).

they said that they would try giving me priority on the network, and if this didnt work they would need to purchase new equipment. it didnt work and they sent me this email:

"We have purchased new equipment to be installed next Wednesday/Thursday of next week. I trust this will resolve any outstanding issues."

it didnt resolve anything, nothing changed and i dont believe they purchased or installed anything.

i have continued complaining all the time up till the present day.

i got this email today:

"We have investigated the reported problem and found the cause of it to be within our suppliers' or other providers' upstream which is outside of our control. The fact that your ADSL connection at home performs differently is virtue of the way the internet is connected together. Our products and services include provision for gaming services of which many customers use regularly and are happy with the performance of, however as a supplier of end user broadband services we cannot guarantee the reliability and performance of every third party service via our network and that of our suppliers."

now this sounds like total bullshit to me. i dont think that anything was investigated, or if it was, was not investigated with a genuine view to resolving the issue. i am most likely the only person living in the building of 500 odd students who plays online games and is aware of the trouble with the internet here. i think that the ISP is aware of this as i am probably the only one to have complained. i have been living here for 6 months, and will move out in 3. i think my ISP is just trying to ignore me, and the problem because i am going to move out and they will have a new bunch of residents, and hopefully nobody to notice the problems.

-------------

i would like to make a proper complaint to this ISP, and also to the student housing company who gives them their contract. i want to get refunded my money and cause them as much trouble as i can.

perhaps somebody knows something about the way that broadband works that shows them to be lying? is the trouble really in someone else's upstream? sounds like a lie to me. what can i say to them?

Wireless Connection

Hi there,

I am wondering if someone could help me with some connection problems I am having. I am not the besr with computers so if I'm not making sense, please let me know. The story goes...

I recently cancelled my broadband with Virgin Media and chanaged to O2 Broadband. They have connected my today and I have setup the connection to my main PC. The internet is working great on the main PC. However I am also trying to connect wirelessly to my laptop, I have enetered the network key and it's saying its connected but when I try visiting any webpage it says it can't connect. My laptop used to connect to the internet with no problems when I was with Virgin Media. When I had Virgin Media I had to buy my own wireless router and connect through that, but I was told with O2 Broadband I just use their box to connect to a wireless network, so i've unplugged the Belkin router.

I contacted O2 about this and they said to delete my internet history but that hasn't solved the problem.

Can anyone help?

Thanks alot!
Sarah

Help with download speeds!

Hello and thanks for reading

I am looking around for a new supplier - currently with SKY - after hunting the net I stumbled across something I have never seen before:

Your local exchange is - somewhere
The ADSL Max speed is - 6.5Mbs

Does this therefore mean it would be useless to take a 16Mbs service?
Many thanks

Broadband problems

Posted: Sun Nov 25, 2007 11:27 Post subject: Boadband problems

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please help.

Every time I try to connect to an online radio station my broadband disconnects but it seems fine listening to web sites with music on you tube or stuff like that.

I also can not watch some of the online tv like the BBC

I run both IE7 and Firefox as I get some web sites viewed within IE7 say I have not flash installed

Any ideas

My ISP is virgin
Internet connected but no webpage displayed

Hi
I had a very miserable week thanks to my broadband connection. Maybe you can cheer me up…

Here the details:
I have a PC:
XP, SP2, Mozilla Firefox as default, IE6
I have a laptop:
XP, SP2, Mozilla Firefox as default, IE7
I have a wireless router:
Belkin, WEP 64 secured
And I have a NTL-Box (Virgin Media) broadband.

From one day to the next the internet stopped working. Well actually it didn’t stop completely. The NTL-Box still shows the connection light. The router (192.168.2.1) still says internet is connected. The network connection still says excellent.
When directly connected to PC (without router) I get the correct IP address (86….). This has been confirmed by Virgin Media
However, when I try to open a web-page it always tells me “Error, cannot open page”.

I have tried the following things:
-	Re-booting the NTL-box many, many times
-	Removing the router and directly connecting PC (and later laptop instead) via Ethernet.
-	Re-provisioning to NTL-Box and assigning computer/laptop/router.
-	Turning the Windows Firewall off
-	Turning the router firewall off
-	Removing all networks and setting up new wired LAN connection
-	Installing new wireless network after wired LAN didn’t work
-	Changing the security setting of Mozilla and IE to minimum
-	Ping to NTL-box on 86… when router not connected. Ping gets returned perfectly.
-	Ping to NTL-box on 192.168.2.5…when router is connected. Ping returned fine also.
-	Tried to turn off (and certainly also “on”) Auto Remote Settings in Admin Tools/Services
-	Tried different webpages but get the same problem with all of them
-	System restored to 2 weeks ago when my world was still in order. Problem still there.
-	TCP filter activated
-	IP address given by DCHP
-	I tried everything stated above on PC/Laptop, with and without router, in safe mode and in normal mode.

As mentioned above, all my analyses tell me that everything should work fine. However, it obviously doesn’t work fine.
The is only one thing that looked odd to me. In my network properties (support) the DNS address was still set to 194.168.4.100 and 194.168.8.100 although the router wasn’t connected anymore, the NTL-box was already re-booted & the support window already showed the correct IP (86… instead of 192…). However, I even tried to manually assign the IP address and I un-ticked DNS and removed the 194.168.4.100/194.168.8.100 but still, no webpage can be displayed.

Here the questions:
-	Is it possible that there is a firewall that I don’t know of (additional to Windows, Belkin, Virgin, on both computers, PC and laptop)?
-	Some might suggest that “windows auto update” has changed something. But why did restoring the system not change it back to working conditions again?
-	Why can this happen over night without changing anything (not even new software installed).
-	Is there a chance that the NTL-box is broken although it still shows up as connected and perfectly in order and still returns my pings?
-	I am willing to re-install Windows XP and flatten my hd if this will help. Does anyone think it could help (considering that restoring the system didn’t help at all).
-	Is it necessary to have the same connection setting in Firefox and IE, even though one of them is default connection?
-	Any general ideas about how to solve the problem?

I am clueless…

VOIPBUSTER PAYMENT issues / problems

This is what is tells me

Your mobile telephone number is invalid

For security reasons, we need to verify your mobile telephone number in order to validate your account.
