The packages are cheaper if you are an O2 postpay mobile customer but still good value if you aren't.

I went for the unlimited 16mb 'Premium' service for £10pm, its £15 for non-O2 customers. If you cant get those speeds, the lowest package is 8mb for £7.50 or £12.50 for non-O2.

You get a free wireless modem and no charge for set up.

I should get mine all up and running soon so i'll let you know how it gos.

P.S. If you sign up to Quidco (cash back site) they pay £40 if you sign up through them! [/quote]

I Too have heard good things about O2 broadband, I read recently that they came top of a speed test there is a link here ( http://theshelf.co.uk/2008/07/08/virgin-rapped-over-broadband-speed-claims/ )

Because of this i have wondered whether mobile operators are the way forward, I have also used Orange in the past and they were very good IMO.

RE: Looking for a new provider

After five years of excellent service from the original Pipex outfit I have to confirm all of the extremely bad comment that I have now unearthed after a month of aggravation with Pipex. The trouble started with them 'upgrading' my service to 8mbps a month ago - since when it has varied from slower than it was before the upgrade to completely unusable. To cap it all, I now find with my recent phone bill that they have moved customer support to a premium line no and when I wait for the 10 to 15 minutes that it normally takes for technical support, they are actually charging me an arm and a leg - AVOID like the plague

RE: Looking for a new provider

Do not go with Tiscali. Applied for Tiscali broadband in January. Received no information except an email confirming that I would get router and CD through post before the 5th of February. Tried the customer care (10p/min) when no package arrived. Had to stay on the phone for nearly 40 minutes for someone to answer and to be told in a rude manner that they didn't know why my order was not processed eventhough they set up the direct debit with my bank. Next day received a mail informimg that all my phone calls will be routed through Tiscali although I opted out of their phone service and speciafically mentioned this every time I spoke to them.

Cancelled the account and went with BT. Got the router etc within 5 days and up and running. No problem. I was also kept informed of the progress of my order through telephone and e-mail. Customer care is only 4p/min and some one answers the phone within 5 minutes although there are lot of options to select.

I am annoyed with the fact that Tiscali made lot of money from my phone calls even though I never any service. It probably is a clever buisiness model.

RE: Looking for a new provider

No throttling etc, but quite tightly capped packages, and certainly not what the OP states they are looking for.

Rgds, Pete

RE: Looking for a new provider

There is only one but dont tell everyone IDNET , best isp you ever want.

RE: Looking for a new provider

* Virgin Media is over subscribed on the ADSL service- expect **** speeds.

* Customer service are useless and downright rude (10p a min). Their aim is to put barriers in between you and achieving your goal in order to save money. Wait for the 'we can't do anything unless tech support have left a note on the system' chestnut for ultimate buerocratic confusion.

* Technical support (35p a min, 10p connection charge) contradict each other depending on who you speak to. Mostly rude, but a few people there do have their sense of humanity intact. Others are moral wreckages.

* After listening to the 'Hey, you' when you call and their falsified 'zany' crazy hip music for the 50th time, you'll begin to suspect they spend more money on crap ads with Uma Thurman than actually providing a good service.

RE: Looking for a new provider

Hi there,

I have just ordered O2 broadband as a lot of my friends are now with them and they are full of praise for it. I am currently with Pipex. I hate they way they are now bandwith throttling on p2p. I am not constant/heavy downloader so I object to having my p2p capped at 20K a second. I also don't like the way they don't pass on savings to customers. New customers can get an up to 8 meg connection for £24.99 a month. I pay £33.99 a month for a 2 meg connection.

Is there an ISP left that does not do bandwith throttling, traffic shaping, port blocking etc and also offer unlimited download usage? I am looking to pay up to £40 a month. I am sure people will wonder why I want unlimited download when I am not heavy downloader. I simply object to having limits placed on me.

If I do have to go with a provider that has download limits which is the best? Again although I am accepting download limits I still don't want any sort of bandwith throttling, traffic shaping, port blocking.

Basically I want to be able to enjoy the speed I pay for.
