I have a wireless BT Voyager 2100 connection toTiscali Broadband.
Recently both myself and my daughter who has the same connection on her computer keep llosing our connection to the internet with the message "cannot connect to server". The only thing that seems to work is to turn router on/off and restart computer. After that it seems fine for various amounts of time sometimes hours sometimes less. As both computers are affectedI don't think the problem is there. Any ideas?

This is to do with the SNR of your line.

See the link below for more info:-

Also try contacting tiscali via email about the issue with the link below:-

Are you connecting both computers wirelessly? If so it may be worth connecting with an Ethernet cable, if resetting the router/computers can restore connectivity it may be a wireless issue.

If you're connecting using an extension cable between the router and the microfilter it will be worth removing this for testing purposes.

If the extension cable you're using is a simple telephone extension cable these are less than suitable for transmitting signals of broadband over long distances and causes unnecessary resistance on your line, any small fluctuations in SNR values or signal strength from the exchange may cause a loss of synchronisation with your router.

If an extension of some sort is needed, it’s advisable to use an extended Ethernet cable designed to allow transit of data up to 1GB over distances of up to 100Metres.

If the connection between your computers and the router is via Ethernet, then wireless checks aren't needed.

Have you tried swapping the microfilter that connects to your telephone socket, it's a common misconception that if your telephone is working from the same filter that all is fine, however the connection for the RJ-11 from the router may become faulty or degraded over time, and most ISP's advise to swap this prior to looking into these types of problems as line faults (Good ISP's do anyway)

Apologies if i've missed anything obvious, but it's getting late

Steve

Hello,

Its for sure that the issue is with your Connection.

Please contact tiscali Tech support 08712223311 on Phone and not on email as the issue would take a long time to be resolved if you opt for the latter.

They would make changes in your connection SNR and get your connection to go stable.

The changes would be done sooner if you have LLU enabled exchange.

However i doubt Tiscali would disclose that to you.

But don't waste time changing stuff at your end.

Regards,

Brad
