Hi,
Could anyone tell me how Virgin 8mb Broadband responds to a Netgear DG834 ADSL router please as i am thinking of migrating to them from my current isp with whom i keep getting disconnected from them (as i typed this i got disconnected yet again) they tell me different things to try or is wrong each time i ring them. As you can image i am abit annoyed at this as the isp i was with before this one i never had this problem.
Any info on this would be welcomed.
Thanks,
dave.min

Hi
I used the WIRED version of this router with 8M Virgin quite successfully. I have 2 desktop PC's networked through it.
It was easy to set up by following the instructions.
It occasionally drops the ADSL line (about once every 2-3 days) - I just unplug the power to the router, wait about a minute or more and plug it back in. Then the internet connection is OK again.
NOTE: I have not updated the firmware yet - this might help the dropping of the ADSL.
Hope this helps.

VIRGIN BROADBAND IS A JOKE, AND SO IS THERE CUSTOMER SERVICE! I MOVED OUT OF MY HOUSE, CANCELED THE BROADBAND, RE DIRECTED MY MAIL AND 6 MONTHS LATER I RECEIVED A LETTER AT MY NEW HOUSE FROM A CREDIT AGENCY DEMANDING £71, ABSOLUTE DISGRACE! THEY WERENT MUCH HELP EITHER WHEN I PHONED THEM, CHARGED ME ANOTHER £17.99 TO CANCEL, EVEN ALTHOUGH THEY KNEW I HAD NOT USED IT IN 6 MONTHS, SEEMS TOUGH THAT I NEVER CANCELED, MAYBE IM GOING MAD AND MAKING UP THINGS!! IDIOTS!
STAY WELL CLEAR OF VIRGIN!!!!

The router connects fine, they actually give that same model away when you subscribe to the 8mb service, or they used to... however, it may connect at a decent speed, but getting bandwidth from Virgin is like waiting for a horse to take a shit on you. It's a massive let down, and it stinks.
* Virgin Media is over subscribed on the ADSL service- expect shit speeds.
* Customer service are useless and downright rude (10p a min). Their aim is to put barriers in between you and achieving your goal in order to save money. Wait for the 'we can't do anything unless tech support have left a note on the system' chestnut for ultimate buerocratic confusion.
* Technical support (35p a min, 10p connection charge) contradict each other depending on who you speak to. Mostly rude, but a few people there do have their sense of humanity intact. Others are moral wreckages.
* After listening to the 'Hey, you' when you call and their falsified 'zany' crazy hip music for the 50th time, you'll begin to suspect they spend more money on crap ads with Uma Thurman than actually providing a good service.
