OPTICAL WIRELESS DIGITAL DATA TRANSMISSION LINKS

BOV-2M Optical Wireless Telecommunications System

The BOV-2M optical wireless telecommunications system can be used to provide a line of sight wireless link for telecommunications and digital networks, with uninterrupted voice and two-way data transfer at a rate of 2.048 Mp/s.  The connectivity of the BOV-2M E1 2 Mb/s system is via 120 Ohm UTP cable.  This cable is connected directly in to the RJ45 socket situated in the BOV-2M E1 system interface.  All data transmission is fully compliant with the ITU G.703 standard.

Product History

The BOV-2M system has been commercially installed for over 2 years.  It has been used to create permanent and temporary telecommunications/data transmission channels at distances up to 1.5 km (and beyond using relays).  Our customers have reported no technical problems during this period – including two severe winters in Eastern Europe.  BOV-2M systems have been installed commercially with carriers and ISPs in Europe.

Advantages of Advanced LED Optical Wireless Technology:

  • Affordability – advanced LED optical wireless systems offer a very cost effective alternative to fibre optic cable, microwave and laser infrared

  • Reliability – advanced LED systems offer a more reliable technology than laser infrared.  Unlike laser, they can guarantee carrier quality reliability through heavy fog, snow and rain at the ranges specified, they are not affected by building movement or by birds/leaves blocking the beam.  They also have a longer operational lifespan than laser.  Unlike microwave, LED is not affected by heavy rain

  • Interference – Infrared systems do not cause or suffer from radio/electromagnetic interference and multiple LED units can be installed in the same location.  Unlike spread radio/wireless LAN or microwave, LED infrared can be beamed through very narrow gaps between roofs, buildings and trees without interference – our technology only requires a 30mm gap to work, making it useful in congested towns and cities where there is limited line of sight

  • Licensing – Unlike microwave, LED Infrared systems do not require spectrum licensing and there is no need to pay annual licensing fees

  • Low Profile – Unlike microwave antennae, LED optical wireless systems are small, compact and discrete and look just like small CCTV cameras.  Sceptre is selling one of the smallest optical wireless systems on the market, allowing for installation in architecturally sensitive areas

  • Low Maintenance – our advanced LED systems have no scheduled maintenance

  • Easy Installation – optical wireless systems do not require permits to install and no right of way permits are required.  LED optical wireless systems can be installed within 2-4 hours using simple line of sight and complete city-wide communication networks can be deployed in just days or weeks.  No specialist knowledge or equipment is required for installation.

  • Security - IR systems offer the highest degree of security of any broadband access technology – unlike microwave or spread radio, an infrared band cannot be detected or hacked by instrumentation.

  • Health & Safety – LED systems do not require certification for handling or operation thanks to their use of an environmentally friendly incoherent radiation source.  Unlike laser, spread radio or microwave, our LED system is totally safe even if used in close proximity to people and animals – our systems have been installed in the UK in sensitive locations such as schools where parents had prohibited the use of microwave.  LED systems are safe for prolonged, direct eye contact.

BOS-EM Optical Wireless Computer Networking System

The BOS-EM optical wireless computer networking system can be used to provide a line of sight wireless link between two computer networks (network segments) for use in LANs, MANs, WANs, etc.  The BOS-EM system comes with BNC (“thin ETHERNET”), TPE (“twisted pair”) or RJ45 outputs and can offer uninterrupted data transfer at a rate of 10 Mb/s, using the ETHERNET protocol.

Product History

BOS-EM system have been commercially installed for over 2 years in Europe.  They have been used to create permanent and temporary data transmission channels at distances of up to 1.2 km.  Our customers have reported no technical problems during this period – including two severe winters in Eastern Europe (and one hurricane in Moscow).   BOS-EM systems are now being deployed commercially in the UK and Ireland – test systems installed in the UK are all working at 99.998% (the BOS-EM system is capable of transferring a 112 Megabyte file over 1 km in 230 seconds).

Advantages of Advanced LED Optical Wireless                 Technology:
