Why is Unlimited Broadband advertised as unlimited when it has limits?
Question by Smiling JW™: Why is Unlimited Broadband advertised as unlimited when it has limits?
Only 2 out of 9 broadband ISP’s advertise their limits. Leaving many people not knowing what the limits are and risking disconnection.
Surely the trade description law should enforce the description of unlimited which actually means just that.
the “fair use policy” means the service has limitations.

I agree, it’s idiotic, but it’s not a limit, it’s a “fair use policy” in the small print, that’s how they get away with it.

YPG seems surprised, I have been warned twice by BT about my usage. Random Time hit that one on the head, fair usage which really says nothing at all. What about the speed though. Up to * meg broadband actually means what? well if it’s a very good ay and you live next door to the exchange and it’s a fairly new cable you mIghy get 8meg. If you live a little distance away and it’s a poor line it can be 1meg or less. Again they break no laws as they state up to and that again means nothing at all. At the end of the day though is it not our fault. If we accept poor service then why should they change.
Hey
who told you
‘unlimited broadband’ has its limits
I am sure there is a law where they can’t over advertise their broadband
eg making it unlimited when its not
Broadband providers aren’t allowed to that,i think :s
The only thing i can think of is ;
it does have a limit but its extremely high and nobody has ever downloaded that many things before.
If so i guess they can call it unlimited
I pay alot for my broadband
As im adsl
i pay for unlimited broadband,up to 8mb,etc
If this is true, thanks for alerting me lol
im finally learnt something new in ICT.
Normally i know most stuff
Answer
if it is true (i don’t know if it is though :s ),
they just want more customers, most people don’t need unlimited downloads anyway
i doubt anybody downloads over 75GB of stuff monthly
unless they are gamers.
Nobody probabbly downloads over a certain limit
so they’ll advertise it as unlimited probabbly because nobody has ever downloaded that much stuff before
