Where can I find out the maximum speed of broadband to my house?
Question by loathsomedog: Where can I find out the maximum speed of broadband to my house?
BT will only give me this info on the internet if I have an existing number, which I don’t.
Also, while you here, can I get broadband without having a phoneline? I have a mobile, so don’t need a landline, besides BT really suck.

Do you mean the plan with the most speed you could get ?
You can get Cable without a Landline, although I don’t know if BT offers cable, you can not however get ADSL without a phoneline as it uses these to connect to your modem.
What do you think? Answer below!

Cnet.com do a very good Broadband speed test..
The nearer the telephone exchange you are speeds up the connection so it depends on that. You need a phone line for BB, I think the service from BT is pretty good Ive hand BB for 5 years now and never had any problems and only once when it didnt work they replaced the modem box free of charge.
ring other phone networks, i was with bt and my connection was non-existant after ringing 85 times to correct the problem and having no help what so ever from them i rang tiscali who informed me that they use the same cable connection but you need a code for them to take the service, they were then able to inform me that no matter which company i went to my connection was weak for broadband. (as i lived so many miles from the main server)
i was then advised to use a dial up service
hope this helps??
You can type in your postcode.. or better yet – search the internet for a business near your new house.. and then use their number in the ADSL checker.

Use the box in the bottom right
Hope this helps.
