With a telephone line you can get ADSL. You need a ADSL Router such as the D-link DSL-502T. This device sits between your telephone line and the computer. It connectes to the computer with a CAT-5 RJ-45 cable.
Now if you have notebook and it has a wireless card built in you can get a Wireless Router Modem One box will do both jobs. Telephone line connects giving you the ADSL then the wireless section communicates with the laptop, make sure the link is encrypted or some one else can use it and you won’t know.
That type of Wireless or WiFi does not provide and Internet connection in itself, it just extends an existing connection.
It is know as 802.11(g) or (n).
There is such a thing as Wireless Internet Connection. One type uses the same tech as the mobil telephone and is carried over the mobil telephone cell cites. Very Expensive and not to fast.
Another type of Wireless is where an Antenna is installed on the Roof of your house and a cable is connected to your PC’s NIC.
This is how we do it in Australia.
by the way ADSL and DSL ADSL the receive is faster than the send. DSL Send and Receive speed are the same.
With a wireless connection you still receive “broadband” it’s just wireless….
It’s great ! you can carry your laptop all around the house and be on the internet ! right now my wireless router is in the lounge and i’m in my room upstairs !
…however you must have good security in place ! and it’s always that bit safer to have one PC connected to the router with a wire so people can’t hack your wireless connection and get your details easier when your doing things like purchasing online etc….
Hope if you get wireless you enjoy it ! I did’nt think that it would be much different for me but it’s very convenient !
broadband is where u have to stay in on place with your computer to access the Internet and it has has wires. and wireless means that there is no wire and you move you computer around the room. wireless in designed for a laptop
The router is important to have a wireless network.. But the phone line is essential to receive broadband..
