Question by Dr. Nigel: What do I need to go Wireless?
I already have a broadband connection. What do I need to change to convert this to wireless? Where to “Routers” and “Hubs” fit into the equation?

You need a wireless router to connect to your DSL modem. the wireless router will function as a transmitter/reciever to recieve the signals from your laptop so you can work without the RJ45 Cable. This will only work if your laptop has wireless capabilities.
What do you think? Answer below!
I have a wireless network at home and have it set up like this.
I have a PC and a laptop both with wireless cards/adaptors installed.
I have a router connected to the ADSL/broadband line through a ADSL microfilter (I also have microfilters on all telephone connectors in the house)
I do not have the PC connected to the router except over the wireless connection
I have a Netgear DG834G router and I think its great.
You need to setup windows so it sees the wireless router but this is very easy.
When you connect to the internet the PC/laptop connects to the router over a wireless connection and everything works fine.
You need a wireless router, easy to get ( linksys, netopia) make sure to get on that is “g” compatible and “b”. ( the ones in use)
You will also need some way of letting your computer be wireless, if its a laptop it may have built in wireless card, if not get a pcmcia wireless card ( that slot on the side of the laptop, thin and slender one)
If you have desktop, there are loads of little usb adaptors to plug into a use port that give a wireless reciver.
After that your ready to go, you get all the stuff for $100-$200 depends on brand name and such.
Good luck
