I have wifi on my new laptop and want to be able to take it out of the front room in the evening while my wife watches tv yet still use the internet.
What do i need to do this? I am using virgin broadband
Perhaps i should add that this is the main computer in the house. My son has one in his bedroom which i would like to be able to use the internet on also but this would be merely a luxury rather than a necessity

you need a cable broadband router for virgin do not buy a dsl router if you have cable connection
You will need a wireless router connected to your broadband service
You need a broadband (DSL – ethernet WAN socket) type wireless router or wireless access point connected to your Virgin Media modem.
You should be careful about allowing children unsupervised internet access, particularly in their bedrooms.
