What can I do about my AOL broadband problem?

Question by Claire S: What can I do about my AOL broadband problem?
I’ve not been able to access my internet for the last 4 days, so I rang AOL and asked why. Apparently we’ve exceeded the download limit on our “unlimited” broadband, so our speed has been capped. We should be able to access webpages, just slower, but we cannot. I have spoken to technical support but they can’t help because we don’t use their awful web browser software so they can’t help us!! They can see our router is online, which is great to know (not!) but we cannot download pages at all. We can’t cancel because our 12 month contract doesn’t end until January, and apparently they won’t put up our speeds again until we go under the limit and they’ve reactivated our account, which could be 2 months or more!

Anyone have any ideas what’s up/any loop holes I can use to make them put our speed or?

Otherwise, anyone recommend a good broadband provider to contact in January?

P.S. DON’T USE AOL PEOPLE!
Apparently the 60GB usage limit was in the small print but it is surely false advertising?
I don’t use wireless, it is all wired up so no chance anyone is stealing my bandwidth!

Also, I DON’T CURRENTLY USE THE AOL BROWSER. I use Firefox!

AOL is rubbish i changed to sky main because it was free but ive not had any trouble with it so far.

i would check the AOL contract, you say you have unlimited access yet they have limited you a good case to void the contract if you ask me…..

you could also try restarting your router or modem or setting it back to factory default and putting the settings back in again, also if using IE7 try uninstalling it and reinstalling it i did have a similar problem with IE7 not showing webpages and good test to see if your connected is go to the command prompt and type in “ping www.yahoo.co.uk” and if you get a reply its your pc stoping your from viewing the pages.
