DSL (such as Sky) Internet speed depends on a number of factors such as your distance from the nearest telephone exchange. Very few people will actually get 20Mb. You can get an idea of your internet speed from http://www.speedtest.net

Because it depends on how many people are on the internet at any given time, how far you are from your exchange, how many people in your house are connected to the internet. There are people who believe that internet providers at peak times of the day, will slow the broadband down, I don’t know how true this is. Also, the terms and conditions of the broadband will tell you that 20mb is just an estimate.
Keyword with these companies are ‘upto’. It all depends what your line can handle.

If your line is old & far from the exchange, it doesn’t matter what speed you’re on, it’s all down to the cabling.
