I would like mobile broadband for my laptop and it looks like a choice between 3, Vodafone, T-Mobile and Orange.

It depends where you live- ask freinds in your area with different providers and see what reception they get.

Depening on where you live it changes.
ALL adsl service are through BT‘s telephone lines. So all isps are about the same as each other when it comes to reliable.
If you can get Cable internet ( virgin media ) i would suggest you do that rather than adsl.
However ask people in your local area how theirs performs.
i have always used vodafone, never had any complaints
