I have a broadband connection at home with Tiscali. The laptop I have definitely has a modem.

Put the tiscali installation disc in first,This will tell you what to do next.

Is your b/b through a router or modem? you dont say, but install you installation cd first then try again
Configure Network Connections.
Control Panel > Network Connections.
Create one if not created. Right Click – Click on Properties.
Now, Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) – Click on Properties.
Put your IP Address, Gateway, Subnet Mask, DNS Server, etc.
in my case, i call the customer care and we do self test. if it does not work, then they will send a report to the technical team to send some one over to check the cable, etc.
