Q&A: What settings do I need to set up my wireless broadband?
Question by Michael S: What settings do I need to set up my wireless broadband?
Ok so i’m finally getting round to retrying to set up my wireless broadband connection. Reading through the instruction manual it says to have the ISP settings to hand, but what are these settings? I know it’s more than just the ISP username and password but what other stuff is there? Could someone please give me a full list of what i’m likely to be asked for? If it’s of any help, my ISP is Wanadoo (now Orange) and i’m using a Belkin wireless adsl modem. Also, how easy (or should that be difficult!) is it to set everything up? Any help very gratefully received

You got it in one. Your ISP settings are your username & password. You will also need your IP address for your router such as http://192.168.2.1 or something similar.

email your ISP, who will supply you with all the settings you will need. But this in itself is not enough. Anyone out there tried configuring a Netgear with AOL? A nightmare!!! Netgear suggest setting up on the LAN first, before configuring the wireless, this was the only part I understood – got there in the end though. Good luck
you’ll need ip address, subnet mask, default gateway, prefered dns server, alternate dns server
you can also some assistance fom your isp
You need to set the modem (dsl?) as a bridge.. Then setup the user name and password in the router.. The other default connections should work as is.. You need the access IP to the modem and router that you put in your browser address line to connect to the setup pages for each device to make these changes… Also if DSL you may need to enable or disable DHCP in the router. Check with them…
