Q&A: What is the difference between broadband ‘G’ and ‘N’?
Question by Nikki B: What is the difference between broadband ‘G’ and ‘N’?
We have recently been upgraded on virgin media and been sent a new Netgear router with ‘N’ broadband opposed to out old ‘G’ Belkin router. I was just wondering what the difference is between them.
All out other computers receive the internet through ‘G’ receptors and so will we have to buy new adapters to be able to receive the signal from the new router and will it be faster?

Ok first of all tell them to give youi the new d link n range router mate as virgin stopped working with netgear routers. Say you have a g range router it will give you the max to the laptop. But if your on a n range router not all laptops have n range wirless capability and you should get a dongle to upgrade your laptop and its ok as you plug it in. N range gives you fewer black spots and better range when using things like x box ps3 psp and more than one laptop. I hope it helps

The ‘N’ standard is faster. However, unless every one of the computers connecting to the new ‘N’ network is running the faster ‘N’ standard, it’ll revert to ‘G’ speeds. It’s backwards compatible, though, so you don’t have to buy any extra adaptors.
They will work but the speed will not be as fast as your connection is capable of and the range will also be longer if you get N adaptors.
