Q&A: What are some of the problems that can occur from having my home broadband network NOT security-enabled?
Question by MrRed: What are some of the problems that can occur from having my home broadband network NOT security-enabled?
It keeps cutting out and i’m wondering if it has something to do with the fact that it’s not security-enabled?
Cheers.

Anybody can see your router and connect to it without a key or password, use your internet and easily attempt to give you a virus.
Get it protected and see if it still cuts out.

One major problem that can occur is that neighbors or other people nearby can horn into your network and “steal bandwidth” (happened to me) and thus make your network work harder and make it slower (doing more work to handle the heavier load!)
Get a password on there so’s every device on your network has to know the password to sign in and use your router! Toot sweet!
You should always set a password for a network to prevent other people from joining the network aswell.
Put a password on and see if that solves the problem.
If not come back and ask another question but this time say that you put a password on.
Also if you are quite far away from the router then consider moving closer to it to achieve a better signal.
Hope that helped!
No it does not make it cut out. It just allows other people to cut in. The computer is probably too far away from the router or there are obstructions etc. Put the router on a high shelf.
It could be that your broadband signal is weak, but it’s vital you use a WEP key to security enable your broadband.
