You’ve been confused by terminology i see:-

Wi-Fi: A wireless network that allows computer to talk to each other and devices in local scope (LAN)

Broadband: A wired connection allowing access to the “Internet” this is the wide scope (WAN).

Wi-Fi on it’s own will not connect to the internet. You would have to be connected to a router (a device which connects two networks). Normal operating speeds for Wi-Fi are between 54Mbps and 108Mbps, although these will change depending on how much interference you are getting. Ethernet connection (LAN wire) Operates at 10/100/1000 Mbps depending on the equipments ability. Broadband can operate from 500Kbps to 100Mbps, so it is possible that your broadband speed can outstrip your Wi-Fi.

All that being said I suspect that they are referring to LAN communications rather than WAN, so you should notice very little difference for the internet. If it is a big problem just get a company in to run an additional ethernet cable, its not that hard.
