Question by Callum-T-333: I have BT broadband and everything is really quick apart from torrent downloads, whats the problem?
I have checked all the settings in my torrent client and everything is in order yet i still get 2kbps download speed. Is this bt – i have the most expensive package – or is it something on my pc.

You have to open some ports for torrents but im not sure how you do it. Try looking through help on your torrent programme. x

this is BT mate! They have it in there website but its not easy to find it, from 4pm to 12 am mon to friday and then weekends as well, this is peak times. I complained about this as my download speed was worse than dial up so i have just sent a big cheeky email as to me this is just wrong, they might have it on there website that the control p2p (peer 2 peer) but by no means do you think you lost nead 8mb download. I will wait for there responce and hopefully i can get my contract canceled
Its in torrents nature to be slow at times. You need to understand the difference between the “seeders” (people who have the full file, and are letting other people leech from it) and “leechers” who have little or the majority of the file and upload to you slower or as fast as they can given they have the parts that you need to complete your torrent.
The best torrents are that with much more seeders than that of leechers, and will go extremely fast.
The second point is that applications, torrent downloaders differ in what ports on your computer they need open. For a good downloader i recommend uTorrent (www.utorrent.com) very lightweight application that also has a built in port checker to see if the correct ports are open.
If you find out the ports in question are closed, your speeds will be extremely limited, so if you have a wireless router you need to configure it and make sure that something called “UPnP” is enabled.

You`re probably trying to download slow torrents, try downloading something with plenty of seeds, just to try it out.
Otherwise it could be BT capping the download speeds.
