On BT option 1 broadband with 10Gb allowance, can I find out anywhere how much I have used and what remains? I can with my 3 mobile phone call allowance so can I with broadband?

A provider says you have an allowance, but does not provide the tools to verify or check it…
I would not accept any excess charges till they did.

As I understand it, BT just send you a letter warning you that you are regularly exceeding the package limit, and to curtail your use or go to a higher package (their preferred option !)

What you can do instead is download a meter to show your speed and accumulate you allowances. The one below, has recenltly been developed at the ADSLguide/ThinkBoradbank web site.
It has one very nice feature. you can
- set alarms for certain usage thresholds, so you get early warning
- set certain times of day/week when you are not measured on your allowance (it is ignored) for the ISP’s that do that
- Set whether you measure up and down or only download data.
