Q&A: Do you need a mobile phone for mobile broadband?

Question by Katie H: Do you need a mobile phone for mobile broadband?
From what i can gather i think i just need a usb modem to plug into my laptop and i can pay monthly, but ive heard about line rental and sim cards and now a bit confused as to what mobile broadband is?

Just USB modem from any company starts from about £15 per month

You will not need a mobile phone; but, will likely be assigned a mobile phone number: which is how they get the signal to your computer.
