Q&A: Do we need to pay for a phoneline to get broadband with Virgin Media?
Question by Sam: Do we need to pay for a phoneline to get broadband with Virgin Media?
Hi,
We just ordered the L Broadband from Virgin Media the ‘without a Virgin Phoneline option’ but will we need a phone line? We think there is a literal phone line but we only moved in 2 month ago and we don’t have or want a landline phone but I’m sure we have a literal line..there are Virgin Media boxes about and there is a Virgin Media modem already in the flat.
Help!

Virgin Broadband comes in on its own cable.
No phone line required for that.
We have complete Virgin package Telephone, broadband and television. The telephone plugs into a normal BT socket – but there is a virgin line to it as well
Found them far more reliable than BT

Thats fine, you dont need a phone line, the engineer will come router and wire up your modem to where you want. The old modem must have been left by a prevous tennant, the engineer will probably throw that away or take it with him. They will install a new modem for you.
Technically when the cable is run in all the services are there anyway because the TV, phone and broadband come through on one cable.
When the installation engineer arrives he just taps off what services your having.
If you say that the box is already on the wall, then he will just reactivate the broadband service. He will probably bring a new modem with him as they do not like connecting old equipment to a new service.
It’s probably an old 100 series modem anyway. It will also be an Ethernet connection as well because Virgin do not support USB now.
