Q&A: Can I use a Wireless Laptop on conventional broadband?
Question by : Can I use a Wireless Laptop on conventional broadband?
I’ve seen some deals on Laptops which are Wireless and fancy buying one.
I do not want to change my broadband connection to wireless (at least not yet) – so does anyone know if these Wireless Laptops will work on a conventional broadband connection.

yes, you can connect at any wifi that allows open access, if you want to connect at home you’ll need a wireless router.

Yes, you can always connect to your broadband router by cable (ethernet), or you could later add a wireless access point or change your router to a wireless one when you are ready to use the wireless adapter in your new laptop.
No problem.
By ‘conventional broadband’ I assume you mean an ADSL or cable connection to your ISP Any new laptop will almost invariably allow you to connect via Ethernet or USB cable to whatever your PC currenty connects to to get on to the web.
If it’s got built in wireless it’s sure to have an ethernet port. If it hasn’t you can get a PCIMCIA ethernet card. Just hook it up to your broadband router with an ethernet cable. Better still get a wireless router, they’re cheap as chips now.
Check to see if its got an Ethernet port as well then you will be able to use it directly linked to the modem box until you can buy a wireless router.
If your not to sure ask in the shop or whomever your buying it from.
Hope that helps
yes, just plug the cable in.
