My Vista Laptop is “not able to detect my (Netgear) router” on installation, although my laptop is online!
Question by roskolewis: My Vista Laptop is “not able to detect my (Netgear) router” on installation, although my laptop is online!
Its driving me mad. The router is plugged in and running and feeding my laptop broadband. That’s great but the actual installation is not working – I follow all the instructions and it points out that I have two network cards, I have to turn one off (the wireless one) which I do, it then runs a test and cannot detect the router (although its actually feeding the internet to my laptop!?!?)… It is a Netgear Wireless ADSL DG834G v2 please help! Happy New Year!

All Hail Vista!!!
Not sure what you are trying to do, but here is what I am understanding from your post.
When you connect with a cable, your internet connection works and Vista is happy
When you try to connect wirelessly, you cannot get to the internet and Vista is not happy
So connect to the router with the cable
Forget the setup programs
READ THE MANUAL
access the router setup pages
Set up your wireless security
Give the router a unique name
Now disconnect the cable
turn on your wireless
find your router
Enter the encryption key
You should be surfing
If you can’t make it work – Upgrade to XP
your router will have a number what you have to do is set up a new connectoin on labtop then enter the same number then it should work fine good luck.
Need more info…do you have a DSL modem? If so, you could have an IP address conflict. Many DSL modems and Wireless Routers come with the default IP address of 192.168.1.1
I had this problem. You need to go into your start menu and type in Restore System. Then let ur computer restore to the original settings and it should work without erasing what you already have!
