It happens on almpost every occasion I try to use the broadband for emails etc

Sounds Like you need a new Router because there is a power supply problem. I recommend the Bt Homehub 2

When you say you have to turn the power supply off – do you mean restart your computer, your router or your modem?
Whichever it is – this is the problem. Whatever it is that you have to restart in order to correct the disconnection is the root cause of the issue. I would suggest trying a firmware update or failing that, replace the troublesome hardware with a more reliable model. Draytek are a good brand, but an expensive one.
