My sister’s boyfriend is going to get a PS3 for his birthday. He said I could use it by going on internet and play with other people around the world.
Since we use a mobile broadband dongle provided by Vodafone is there a possibility that I could use this to connect PS3 to the internet, if so how?

No, you have to have a router or an ethernet cable in order to connect the PS3 to the internet.

What you can do is buy a dock for your usb stick, this gives WiFI connected to the USB stick. This should work with the PS3.
