I have BT home broadband. How do I go about cancelling the broadband but keeping the phone line?
Question by Kevin: I have BT home broadband. How do I go about cancelling the broadband but keeping the phone line?
I’ve had it for almost two years so there will be no penalty charges. I can get cheaper service switching the broadband to O2 as I have my mobile contract with them. But who do I contact within BT and how easy will it be?

your broadband is on a rolling contract so ull need to look into the end date, you will incur penalties because of the rolling contract thing.
if youve worked all this out, and can get released at the end of ur contract it will be easy enough you can get the mac code and chance over. contact customer services and tell them you want to cancel

Ring bt on 150 from your landline, Select the option saying if you are ringing from the phone you wish to speak about press x. Then select the option like ‘if you wish to leave bt press x’ I cant remember what the options are. then tell them you want to cancel the broadband, ask them for a MAC code, That means your broadband is switched over without disruption, Give the mac code to o2 and they will do the rest.
You can go through customer services – dial 150 (as you’re a BT customer you dont need to dial the full number) first press 1 (option for calling from the number you’re enquiring about) then wait for option 5 for ‘any other enquiries’ – there is no option for broadband enquiries – and you’ll be connected to an advisor. Tell them you want to cancel your contract and ask for your MAC code, they must provide this code within 5 days.
Alternatively you can dial 01793 590969 – BT Broadband Customer Services in Swindon.
No its not on a rolling contract.
It would have been 12 or 18 months.
You need to speak to BT‘s customer options team, its the only department that will cancel it for you.
call 0800800150 there should be an option that asks if you want to cancel.
as for how easy, they may try and offer you a better deal. but they cant refuse to cancel it
