I have a Compaq Presario Desktop – can I connect it to wireless broadband without any plug-ins?
Question by Wee2: I have a Compaq Presario Desktop – can I connect it to wireless broadband without any plug-ins?
I am getting a used Pentium 3 laptop and know that I will need a dongle or something (can you tell me what?) because it is quite an old one – but is my 15 month old desktop equipped to take wireless broadband without any dongles or whatever?
YES! I am computer illiterate – a complete novice . . . Thanks for any advice re equipment I need to buy FROM SCRATCH!

dump the dongle idea, they dont have the range a wireless card has, get wireless pci card instead. Aint nothin to puttin it in. Any 8 year old can do it.

If your 15 month old Desktop PC has a built in Wireless feature then you can connect with out an external wireless adapter. You shouldn’t need anything to use your wireless on your desktop if it has built in wireless. All you will need is an access point.
Your wireless laptop, I would recommend a wireless network card, you can just get it from almost any computer retailer, and pretty cheap too. You can use a dongle if you wish, I haven’t had problems with them, I am using one now. A Zoom wireless adapter, but they ain’t as fast as the cards…
Hope this is some use.
