After the original license expired on macafee security package on a relatives computer a spyware infection was detected. We then proceeded to install a new bt broadband upgrade with norton security. As far as we are aware we uninstalled the original macafee security software.However after a full norton security scan removed some viruses and a spyware infection we still have a notification that a spyware infection is still present. This is showing in a pop up in the bottom right menu bar marked by the icon with a white cross in a red circle. The norton security status is showing as good. If you click on the icon/popup it disappears then comes back later but does not give any more information. Can anyone help?

no worries. just move ur cursor and see wats the name of the icon thewn go to add/remove program and uninstall it.. :O take care and good luck

Sounds very much like your computer is infected with the Vundo Trojan. Vundo Trojan generates fake warning messages and tries to force you into buying rogue antispyware products. To remove these message and the trojan that generates them, download and scan your PC with SpyNoMore, it is the most accurate program in detecting Vundo infections.

By the way it is not free, but then again you should really question any so-called free solution. Isn’t that how your computer got infected in the first place?!. The free scan will only check your system and show you the infections. If you choose to remove them, be prepared to pay.

I have this same white cross in a red circle in the bottom right menu bar but mine appeared after I downloaded an update of Btbroadbands help information. I can find nothing wrong to connect this to but if I right click on the white cross in a red circle a pop up box tells me ‘no network card has been detected’ I don’t have a clue what this means and BT have been hopeless in resolving any issues. However I think there is an issue with the new btbroadband browser upgrade containing norton security which is why I want to keep my own Norton Internet security 2006. Before I purchased my own Norton security I used adware spyware which was excellent. I tried Bt‘s spyware but it kept telling me I still had a problem but I never could work out how to sort it. Only problem is you cannot run adware with Norton Anti Virus. Good luck I hope you find a solution but I think the problem is with BT‘s spyware.
Your first problem is Norton – its rubbish, they lie to you and tell you that they are updating constantly but they don’t. Try downloading the free version of AVG and then download ad aware – do a google search for it, lots of people use it and another programme id really recommend is spybot. My old computer used to be absolutely riddled with viruses and spyware, the first spybot check took a while- i left it overnight but with regular checks, its quicker than a normal virus check. chances are, macafee could be detecting spyware that Norton doesn’t detect. check it out with spybot and clear your conscience.
