How does my ISP upgrade my broadband to a faster service?
Question by gary Y: How does my ISP upgrade my broadband to a faster service?
Just wondered how my ISP upgrade my broadband to a faster service. Do they have to send someone to the exchange or is it just a click of a mouse? Mine takes 10 days to activate. Just an odd question that got me wondering this sunday morning! Lol

More likely than not, you just received something known as Wideband in your area. The only thing that changes really would be the modems on Cable to Docsis 3.0
What do you think? Answer below!
If it’s DSL service to a faster DSL service, and assuming your existing modem supports whatever standard the faster service uses (probably the same standard), it’s usually a matter of reconfiguring the card for your phone line at the local switching office. The actual task usually takes less than an hour. However, as most ISPs don’t own the local telephone switching office, they typically have to put in the request to the local phone company. Well, you know how long it takes for them to send out someone to fix your phone line… The combined bureaucracy of the ISP and the phone company (even if they’re the same company) are why it takes 3-10 days to accomplish this.
You usually don’t have to do a thing. You may not even notice right away when the switch over happens. You’ll just be fiddling around on your 1Mbps DSL connection and one morning, you might notice that your pages load faster, and downloads come in at a higher bit rate.
If you’re talking about cable or satellite or Wireless broadband, or a switch between them, I’ve no idea. I’ve only used DSL (well, and dial-up, but nobody considers that broadband).
