How do you set up broadband on an old computer that only seems to have dial up connectivity?
Question by Cian: How do you set up broadband on an old computer that only seems to have dial up connectivity?
I just found an old computer of ours that I want to ressurect. It is about 4 years old and we had dial up Internet with it. We have since got broadband and It does have an Ethernet port built into the back but every time I search for a network it searches for a dial up tone and ignores the Ethernet cable. Does anyone know if I can still use jt for broadband??

In MSIE, Tools, Internet Options, connections tab .. select ‘never dial’ (and/or remove the ‘dial up’ details from the box), click on ‘LAN settings’ button … set ‘auto-detect’
Delete your dial up network. (you don’t have to)
Go to your internet settings in control panel. Set it to never dial a network.
Probably also to detect network settings.
What do you men by search for network? As soon as you plug in the Ethernet cable you should see the network connected icon in the system task bar area (unless it has been disabled).
It must work one way or the other if you have an ethernet socket.
