our router is downstairs in the living room, and my son has a ps3 in his bedroom on the 3rd floor, it says the signal is too weak, what can i do to make it stronger? someone at work said their is something you plug in your sockets down stairs then one in the room you want the broadband and it uses your electricity cables to pass signal? is this right?

Yes, powerline networking is one solution. You could also consider running an ethernet cable upstairs, and either just plugging it in directly, or setting up a wireless access point up there.

There is a way to use your existing electrical wiring to accomplish what your looking to do. But you will have to purchase the devise that will allow you to do so. What might be easier is moving your router. Usually the cause of a poor signal could be one of two things. First it might be to far away. the second you might have a wet wall, or some other electronic devise in between. This will cause the signal to be poor. try moving the router to a different room if possible. This should fix your issue.
use repeaters at second floor
Yes, they’re called homeplug adaptors but you won’t get wireless. you connect an ethernet cable to each homeplug and then one to ps3 and one to router.
move the router closer upstairs onto another phone socket upstairs. it dosent have to be on the master socket.
