I was up for hours last night trying to figure this out. I tried connecting the talk talk broadband cable direct to the USB port but that didn’t work. Then I tried connecting the XBOX 360 to my PC using the ethernet cable but I kept getting a “IP Address not found” message. Do I need windows media centre for this? Help!

You dont need media center for this and your doing the whole procedure wrong. You dont put the cabel through the usb port. There is an output in the back of hte 360 where you plug in the ehternet cable and you should have your connection and xbox live. If you dont have an ethernet cable long enough then buy a wireless adapter for 360 at best buy for $ 100. It’s worth it if your computer or internet connection is far away from ur 360. The adapter is called “xbox 360 wireless adapter” dont buy anyhting else because their all crap! You should have a router and a dsl connection for this.

There are two types of ethernet cable, for 2 different applications – straight through, and crossover. The one that coimes with your Xbox 360 is a straight through (in that the wires in it go “straight through” to the other end) and is intended to be used with a router.
Crossover cables (where on pair of wires are “crossed over” from one end to the other of the cable) are what you need to connect 2 computers together (or your xbox to your computer).
You need to either invest in a modem router, which connects directly to the internet, and use the straight through cable you have to connect to your 360 to the router, and buy another straight through cable to connect your PC to the router or…
Buy a crossover cable, and connect it between your 360 and your PC, then set up Internet Connection Sharing (via the network setup wizard on the PC) to share the Pc’s connection with the 360. The main downfall of this method is that you will have to have the PC powered up to get your internet connection. With a router, you can just turn on the 360.
Sorry I can’t be much clearer than this, there’s a lot to know about this really, but the main thing is that you need the correct type of cable, and you DON’T have the correct one for what you want to do.
