how do i change from standard broadband to WiFi?
Question by Jimi L: how do i change from standard broadband to WiFi?
I would like to upgrade to wireless and was wondering what this involves.
i currently am with BT and have a “BT Voyager ADSL Voice Router” which plugs into the phone socket. Will i need a BT WiFi hub or can i use any? does it just plug into the phone socket?

Wireless is not an upgrade. It is a slower way of accessing the internet.
Any wireless router will do the job.

Your best bet is to contact BT re their Home Hub. They always have reasonable deals on offer. The Home Hub is ‘N’ speed which is very fast, not as the other wally said. You will need a good wireless adaptor card, rated ‘N’, or a usb dongle of the same speed to take advantage of the high speed connection. Personally I would pop a card into a spare PCI slot and off you go. Edimax is a good make. If you have a laptop it will be wifi enabled anyway, unless it’s ancient.
You will need a wireless adsl router which plugs into the phone socket. You could probably use any router but why not ask BT for a WiFi hub? You will need wireless networking cards or wireless adapters for your computers and any other equipment you wish to use wirelessly.
