How do I block my neighbour from stealing my wi-fi broadband?
Question by Anela Angel: How do I block my neighbour from stealing my wi-fi broadband?
Can anyone connect to my wireless internet by being close enough to connect to the network I use? And how close do they have to be? What is the distance involved?

You have to lock it. dont know what router youve got but go into the settings and you should be able to find how to block it.
What do you think? Answer below!

The easyest way is to tell them to stop!. Switch it off when ur not using it or read your router manual and install the cd(s) that came with ur router. I think they call it firewall.
Add a WEP key. i do want to know though, how do epople find out if their neighbours are using it? but yeah add a wep key to it and they WILL NOT be able to access it. make it a series of numbers and letters, complicated so that they cnt figure it out but you just have to write it down.
If your WiFi network is not encrypted then yes, anyone within range can connect to it. The distance varies depending on the nature of what is between you and them but 50 – 60 metres is typical.
To stop them you simply need to turn the built in encryption on. In many cases this is done automatically anyway when you first set your equipment up. There are two types of encryption in use on domestic wireless networks WEP and WPA. WPA is the stronger but in most practical circumstances WEP will be ok and protect you from all but the most well equipped and determined person trying to snoop on you and most certainly the casual opportunist trying to jump onto your connection.
Check your routers interface and instructions to see if encryption is turned on.
You can block access to them if they don’t have the “Wireless key-code number……just search for the right box to tick
if your wireless router or modem is not secured..anyone that is close will be able to access it…the ranges will vary by model and location of the modem or router….securing it is fairly simple…or if nobody in your household has a wireless cpu then just go into the modem or router and turn off the wireless broadcasting..if you need more assitance send me a message on yahoo…cheers
You can make it secure just go into preferences on your router software, actually It’s illegal to use another persons Wi Fi, you could get them into trouble!
when you set it up put a lock on it, otherwise yes, people in near proximity can tap into it.
