Hello,
(ANS) YES! try NOT too worry or become upset it IS all very very confusing if your a non technical person and if your not very familiar with IT and computer things. Its NOT that you are stupid I’m sure you are NOT.
****OK!! HERE’S HOW*****
No.1 The first step is that you must connect the computer with the modem or router (or home hub). This is done using an Ethenet cable which is also called a patch cable (sometimes these are bright blue or yellow or green or gray) this cable is connected to the network socket on the back of the PC or laptop>>>>>>>>connects to the back of router (LAN port) there should be several LAN ports. The connector is called an RJ45 and it is this that plugs into the LAN port (socket).
No.2 The first task is to make sure once the cable is connected that the PC (networking connection) is seeing and able to talk to your router.
**NOTE:- The router should be set up to use a DHCP server, because this will assign (give out, supply) your PC with a working IP address. This should allow the PC to talk to the router. The PC should be set up in networking connection to receive an IP automatically & a DNS automatically too.
**The router often has a special IP address like the one you have quoted, i.e. 192.168.0.1 (this is a private IP address which can be used when trying to connect to the router). NOTE:- be very very careful to type in the IP address extremely carefully as its very easy to make mistakes with IP addresses. It MUST BE 100% accurately typed in otherwise the connection will fail.
**TRY the IP address of 192.168.00.100 when attempting to reach the router.
No.3 When you have established a connection between PC & Router you next need to look for the security or encryption options (such as WEP, ISPEC, WPA, WPA-PSK, or better still if available WPA-PSK2).
The wireless internet connection is secured by using encryption and so an encryption key needs to be created.
No.4 If you can use the option WPA-PSK2 as this is a very secure encryption method. Select this option and you now will need to create or supply a complex pass phrase.
For example:- “the waters of the pacific ocean become bright greeny blue at full moon”
**the longer and more complex the phrase the better but kept the phrase something that you can recall or otherwise write it down and keep that note in a safe place in case you need it in future.
**Once you enter the pass phrase this is used by the router to create an encrypted network key.
No.5 Both your router & your computer MUST USE the precise same encryption key (pass phrase) & SSID when trying to connect the computer to the router and thus internet.
Hope this makes some sense?
Kind Regards Ivan
198.168.0.1 is the IP address of the router you need to enter this in to your internet browser to access the routers settings and you need to do this with router attached directly to the computer with the ethernet cable
once you connect the router with the cable and then enter the IP address you then go to security or connection settings and activate WPA or WPA2 security and then set the password then when you connect wirelessly again it will ask you for this code then you set your computer to store this code automatically and then when you connect you can with out putting the code in but others cant because they dont know the code
hope this helps
Make sure your PC is connected to the router using the cable.
Then open internet explorer (or firefox) and type http:\192.168.0.1 or http:\192.168.1.1
This will open the configuration page for the router, and using the login details provided in your manual, you will be able to set your password.
